If you buy a set, don't buy the ones Aldi sell, the headlamp bulbs are Eastern European, and don't last 3 weeks, which isn't what you want when it takes 2 weeks to dismantle enough of the car to change the bulb.

No wonder so many cars have one headlanp on, it is a major workshop operation to change the bulb. In the Olden Days, you could change all the bulbs in 10 minutes, and only needed a screwdriver for the headlamp.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

To be serious about the spare bulb requirement.

It's a whole ball game that is best kept away from by actually having a kit.

It's unbelievably difficult to find the truth.

Yes, France does not have a law saying you must have a spare bulb kit, but it is an offence to drive with a bulb out.

A French policeman is likely to take a dim view of a driver who doesn't have a bulb to replace the faulty one and they can find you and prevent you from continuing on your journey before replacing it.

That'a according to friends who live in France - but is that just another apocryphal story.

Every supermarket in France has a whole shelfful of such equipment.

Finding an accurate list of what is required in which country is very difficult as most of what we are told is pure hearsay and/or from those companies with a vested interest in selling us all sorts of kit that may or may not be legally necessary as against just a good and sensible idea.

Warning Triangles, First Aid Kits, Bulb Kits, Reflective Vests, Tow Rope, Breathalysers, Headlamp Beam Deflectors, Spare Wheel/Puncture Repair Kit, Snow Chains and/or Winter Tyres - the list goes on and on , of things that various organisations tell us we need to carry. Many are not legally required.

There would be no room left for the kids or the luggage if we were to load up the car with it all. ;)

It would be a great and worthwhile project for someone to truthfully and honestly draw up a chart with what is legally necessary in each country in Europe.
