Joint Cheque into Single Account

Why not just transfer it out of the joint account once paid in? Or is that too obvious?0

Occasionally a new cashier has looked a bit puzzled, gone and consulted another who glances at me, smiles and nods0

You cant pay a joint cheque into a sole account, It will have to go into a account in joint names, once the cheque has cleared you can transfer the funds into your sole account.
the other option is to open up a joint savings account just for the cheque to be deposited if you dont want the money to go into your joint current account (although I cant work out why this would be a problem)
as mentioned above you may find its credited by the cashier as they dont know the FCA rules but if its noticed by the cashier it will be rejected, this is the same if you use the immediate deposit machines, or the envelope systems.
I work as a bank cashier and I would not accept the cheque over the counter, or I would reject if deposited into the machines and returned to the customer to represent, or call to ask if I can pay it into the joint account if one was held in the same bank....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. You can pay it into one of your single accounts, I have done this on several occasions. A couple of times I have been told it must be a joint account so have just presented the cheque again another day with a different member of staff. Only once the bank did make an issue of it and would not accept it at all. We do not a joint account, and did not want to harass my elderly relative who I haven't spoke to in years to write another one (It was a small amount sent at Christmas for the children's piggy banks,) So I gave the cheque to my in-laws who are also Mr & Mrs First Initial Anagran and they banked it. Not everyone can do that though I suppose.0
