  • I was sold PPI with a graduate loan a few years back and although I was told it was 'optional', I was strongly advised to take it even though it's not really a suitable product for a young man starting a career in london where there are loads of jobs for graduates.

I was also given the impression that the loan was less likely to be authorised if i did not take the insurance option. i.e. the insurance was added before the loan was processed. Yo could say that I was 'strong armed' into it.

A few months back I asked in a branch if I could cancel the policy and they said 'no'. I am ow going to write to them.

Do have a case or not? I appreciate any advice on this, cheers.
  • I took out a loan with Welcome Finance in 2004 as i was in bad finance land but glad to sya i'm out of it. I have looked through the terms of the PPI and it states that if you ahve a bad back in the past then your policy will not cover it. I have always had problems with my back and i remember as it was yesterday that the guy said 'don't worry i'm sure we can sort that out if you need it'. He also said that if i take out the cover then i will get a better credit score and it will look to their head office that i will not default on any charges which means they won't need to investigate you for fraud' Myquestion is can i claim for PPI that was taken out in 2004? Welcome told me on the phone that i can't claim as it has been too long. Welcome took £735 in ppi cover off me before the re payments for the loan started. I spoke to welcome over the phone today and they said that i am in not in any position to claim anything. Any help or pointers would be thanked.

  • I received a reply from egg regarding payment protection on my Visa card. I have been informed that I accepted the preotection over the phone after one of their reps phoned me. They have advised me that they cannot trace the call and they have no agreement signed by me. They do say that i should have seen this on my statements but as I use internet banking and pay a set amount each month I rarely check my statement. My point is that I dont think i would have accpeted this as I do not have protection on my other cards so why would i accept this, maybe I should have seen this but if I did not want it why should i be paying it. As there is no proof should i send a letter requesting a full refund of the money.

sent my complaint off 8 weeks ago to first plus stating they didn't tell me that only 1 person was covered for the accident and sickness. I recieved a reply today with a copy of the agreement we signed and there it was in tiny letter (of course) that we had joint life cover but only single sickness. Obviously due to this I can't take my claim any further, but I was wondering (scraping the barrel really) if they needed to tell us which person was covered, any comments greatly recieved.

If didnt decide to go to FOS is the misrepresentation route the court route ? If so what would it cost me does anyone know how to go about this

  • I too have decided to look at my PPI loans etc.

Currently have sent a claim to Nova Finance (re: DFS Lounge Suite). Although dates back to 2000 - I have all original paperwork which shows PPI added to loan amount but the optional PPI box remains unticked. I have made copies and sent this through to them last Thursday - so eagerly awaiting a cheque??? (Original PPI charge was £347 - so hopefully interest on top of that too!!).

Also sent off to Paragon for a secured loan with PPI (actually couldn't find original credit agreement but found reference number). Paragon replied by return post - and advised me to take it up with Black & White who were the brokers for the loan. I phoned them up - spoke to a real person yesterday, received a follow up call today to say they are investigating, will confirm in writing and should conclude investigation within 4 weeks (I am hoping sooner). I am claiming here on grounds of mis-selling on 1stly we had a 10 year loan (and PPI covers 5 years??), also asked them to check if a single or double policy as it was a joint application AND we paid loan off within 18mths. This loan dates back to 2002.

I have also submitted 2 claims to Welcome finance - as am on my 3rd refinanced loan with them in 12 months (don't ask) and the first 2 included PPI and both paid off. So although I don't expect a full refund, I am hoping for the difference due to early settlement.

Additionally I have also sent letters to Studio, MBNA credit card and MBNA personal loan (for hubby).

    We shall see what happens.........

Yes it was. First Plus dont do fixed rate loans. ( Or at least they never did when we took the loan out in August 2005.) Like Twinsmum said, every time the Bank of England raised the interest rate, they put ours up straight away. Now that the interest rate has settled down they still are putting our rate up. They have never lowered it during our loan agreement! Our interest rate has gone up nearly 2% since we took the loan out, meaning our monthly payments have increased by nearly £90!

HI FIRSTPLUS OR WORSTPLUS? DO INTEREST RATES THAT JUST GO UP AND UP. THE LAST TIME THEY PUT INTEREST RATES DOWN WAS 2005. THEY DON'T FOLLOW THE BANKS INTEREST RATES JUST WHETHER THEY NEED TO BRING MORE MONEY IN OR NOT. BUT WE ALL MUST PAY THE SAME RATE APART FROM THE 3 MONTHS STARTING RATE . FIRSTPLUS THE COMPANY THAT DOES THIS TO ALL WHO DO BUSINESS WITH IT

    Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum and just starting out on PPI reclaiming. I have a couple of questions can anyone point me in the right direction please

Some years ago I had PPI from GECapital on a few store cards, then around 1997 I was ill and lost six months from work (depression/anxiety/stress etc) and claimed on the insurance. They paid out to cover the cost of the repayments for some of the time I was ill. However, in 2000 I was ill again and claimed again, but was told I was not covered as I had a preexisting condition. After claiming in 1997 I had notbeen told that I was no longer covered for depression/anxiety. I then cancelled the insurance in 2000. I'm wondering now if I can claim. Perhaps for the period after 1997... Can anyone offer any advise.

I also have an Egg credit card (although no longer used and has 0 balance) PPI appeared on my statements mid 2002, although I would have had the card for over a year at that time. So not sure why it just appears then. I cant even remember agreeing to this cover, and given my experience with GECapital and having a preexisting medical problem would not have been covered anyway, I would assume. I cancelled it a year later as it stops early 2003. Having paid out over £600 in insurance. However, should I just claim stating that i was missold as I was not questioned on existing medical problems?

Can anyone tell me where I can find out if Egg or GECapital has been fined.  I believe there is a list but have been unable to find it

    Many thanks in advance.

    Bun
