Domestic abuse and destruction of property and ID documentation

Things have got very nasty between ex and I. Police now involved and they are trying to get a PINS (sorry if that is wrong word). The policeman said it was the new name for a harassment order.
Anyway my passport, driving licence, birth certificate all gone missing and my clothes too.
Got most basics out a couple of weeks back before things turned really bad. Went back last night to collect remainder when husband was at AA and all my clothes vanished.
Done the local charity shops today but they have not been handed in there.
Last week ex said he had the passports so I would not be able to leave the country. He has gone a bit delusional and thinks I am doing a flit to France where my dad lives. However dad and I do not get on and I had no plans to leave.
Police coming back later tonight or tomorrow as harassment still continuing. Is it a criminal offence to destroy someone's property? I need to get new car but cannot get finance without ID documents.

I would have thought so! What do the Police say?

Police took a statement yesterday and said they needed to speak to the Inspector about the PIN (harassment order) thing. They were due to come back today but the control room phoned and said all police were on a major incident so I am going down the station to make a statement.
Spoke to a solicitor and begged her to send out cease and desist letters to ex and his cronies but she said it is a police matter and I need a RO.

What an awful situation to be in. Can womens aid (or are there any other charities) who can offer some advice?

Just so upsetting. Ex is from a giant family (they all have between 6 and 9 kids each) and I stupidly chose not to move out the area as my 3 year old son has just been offered a place in an excellent local school. Now random in laws who I have never even met before are banging on my door shouting abuse. Nursery and health visitor being really supportive. HV has instructed all contact to cease at this point. However I am hoping ex can have some supervised contact with son in contact centre when he is in a better frame of mind. He has gone really weird and I think there are mental health issues. I offered a few months back to pay private for a psychologist to see him but he refused to take the offer of help.
  • He does not work and none of his family have jobs. I run a business and do self-employed A level/degree level science tuition. I have been working 80 hour weeks, grafting my butt off and he has spent £5K of my earnings on scratchcards in the last 4 months. This only came to light recently as I had been working so hard, and I trusted him, so although money seemed to be missing he made a plausible excuse every time.
  • Also I have ASD and a few weeks ago he started doing an offensive tone of voice going "duh I am autistic, I am a retard". Reported this to police and they say they will log it as a hate incident, however because it happened in a home and not in public they cannot arrest and charge him for it.

Problem is that there needs to be evidence that your ex has destroyed your documents and property.

He could easily say that you have taken them and lost them, that they have been stolen etc.

The police are unlikely to do anything about your docs.

  • I guess that is the problem Phill. They need a good likelihood that there is evidence beyond reasonable doubt if it goes to court.
My son's galaxy tablet has gone too.
I am taking my dogs in the car round to my tutee's houses as I am too scared to leave them in the house in case there is a break in and they hurt my dogs. Need to return car in 7 days to motability as it is ex's. He originally agreed for me to have it in lieu of the gambling but that soon changed.

I'd get in touch with a domestic abuse charity and see if they can advise you. I assume that it might be easier to declare your passport lost/stolen and get a new one but don't know how easy that is to do. I'm sure the charities will be able to advise on how to replace all your documents as they will have seen it before, sadly :(

OP just do you know a PIN (Police Information Notice) is commonly known as a harrasment warning, but has no legal basis really.

It can be used by the police in future investigations, however they are not nationally stored, they are not an admition of guilt.

Harrassment is a police matter and your solicitor was very much correct in advising so.

You should invest in CCTV to gather evidence of this continued actions
