Please help; Should this account still show as a default?

A few years ago my partner was £930 overdrawn with Halifax.

He made arrangements with a company called Moorcroft to pay it back at £100 a month.

This arrangement finished in early 2014 after he made all the 9 monthly payments.

We have got access to his credit report with Experian using the free 30 day trial.

Part of it says "You have a defaulted or delinquent account"

The defaulted account is Halifax, within the last 1-12 months, there are red ! on every month.

When you click on it says default date: 08/08/2011.
Default amount: £930

Is this correct if it was all paid off?

  • Even if you pay the debt off, the defaults will remain on your account for 6 years.

Should be marked as satisfied, but the original default remains showing.

Yes it is saying you defaulted on the original agreement.

The default will stay on your file of 6 years, even if you pay it off.
    Aqua £160.00 / EE £289.60
    Total debt = £449.60

Thank you. It doesn't seem to say satisfied anywhere.

Who are the best people to phone and ask? Halifax, Moorcroft or Experian?

Thank you, should it not be marked as satisfied though?

Yes, if paid off then it MUST be marked as satisfied. As said the default will stay, but it would then be a satisfied default.

Query whatever company it says on the report. May have to get the Morons involved as well, but start there.

Plus ask Experian to mark it as disputed, as they will then separately enquire through their channels as well.

As you paid Moorcroft, write to them.

I would do it in writing rather than phone, in case you get messed around.

    Hi Chelseablue,

You are right that a paid default should be marked as satisfied on your report.

If it has not yet been updated, as Fermi has mentioned you can contact us as we will query the entry with the company on your behalf and mark the entry as disputed while we do so.

Contacting the company directly as well can sometimes help to speed things up as well.

We have a short video about what to do if you find mistakes on your report that you may find useful here.

    Kind Regards
    Neil
