The advice to contact/confirm with the insurers is sound. But it's also off-topic to this discussion. Hence "muddying the waters".

It sounds like (unusually) we are all in agreement, anyway: the employer should not be imposing upon the employee to fund either their own time or their own petrol.

Personally, I think it's acceptable for an employer to ask for an employee who can drive (as it's part of the job). However, they need to expect that if they also ask for an employee to provide their own vehicle, then (a) the already owned vehicle may not be suitable, (b) they should cover relevant costs, (c) they may be excluding better candidates, and (d) if they are not covering any costs, then they have no right to expect the vehicle to be road-worthy on any given day.

    She still hasn't accepted it.

They're chasing for an answer, so she's holding out until they up the offer. Proud of her.

Glad the general consensus is that it's illegal to pay this low.

£7 an hour for an assessor role and they will help her to get a loan to pay for her own training so she can do 24 hours extra? Is your friend seriously considering this? She could go to any agncy and get more than that. An assessor should be on at least £12 per hour and thats on a bad week. I think they mean senior carer which is basically a carer because they are going to be expecting her to pitch in when they are short. . . . . all the time.
Tell her to tell them to take a running jump, and find a job where she will earn something.
