The Waze app https://www.waze.com/ is also good for sat nav use. I also use my smart phone in a cradle mounted on the dashboard.

You never mentioned anyone else use the device,
    This is correct.

However I did ask about a Sat Nav around the £100 marker and went on to say i had the TomTom app but that wasn't suitable.

Look what happened with that one.
and I'm guessing your wife doesnt have a smartphone of her own?
    She does.
But before it's mentioned, she wont be buying the TomTom app.
This thread is occuring on the motoring pages that may give you some hints as to which device to aim toward https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5239612
Thanks for the link. I'll take a look.

Does your wife not have a smart phone at all? Google maps is great now to navigate with. Has in-built real time traffic.
Yes she does, but i fail to see how this is helping the situation?

As for google maps - doesn't this use mobile data?

We've tried out various different Sat Nav's (apart from Garmin). We don't like Google Maps as a sat nav.

Again, tried Waze. Don't like it.

Plus doesn't it also use mobile data? I'm sure i read some time ago that it does.

Ok, i should rephrase the OP to specific stand alone sat nav that isn't a mobile app & doesn't have a mobile phone cradle.

    So....
    suitable TomTom or Garmin?

Why not buy a cradle that does not require you to take the case off the phone?

Wouldn't you have to have a smart phone - an ordinary phone that just phones takes photos and sends texts may not work?

Not everyone has those smart phone things.

and £75 more expensive than what has been suggested by myself and Big Graeme

True, but the OP did, specifically ask for Satnav recommendations.

And this is a money saving forum so i was merely trying to suggest the cheapest solution
  • And that is much appreciated.

However I would prefer the question to just be answered really. No offence although i suspect some will be taken.

I can totally see why the suggestion would be made, although when i say again that i want SatNav suggestions i would expect the thread to then take that direction & not keep just repeating phone cradle when i've said no.

Yes Google Maps and Waze both use mobile data, there is Navmii that doesn't use mobile data but haven't used it myself.

The Garmin posted by Bedsit Bob looks a good choice.

I use Nokia's here maps, which works off line and is on both iOS and android app store for free.

Get your wife to download that and buy a cradle that'll fit yours and your wife's phone, jobs a good un and you saved yourself a good chunk of money.

Garmin Nuvi. Allows you to select road/postcode, then house number.

I love mine :) and would rather keep phone and satnav separate. Not very :money: but it was a gift.
