Sat Nav for approx. £100??

I was in the market for a Sat Nav & didn't want to spend a whole lot. I have the TomTom app on my iPhone but it's a bit of a PITA dismantling my case (got one of those otterboxes) every time i want to put it in its windscreen cradle which also lifts the screen protector.
So as i'd experienced the TomTom system i went & bought a TomTom...
TomTom Start 50.
Just arrived today & i want to send it back. It's very slow to respond. The menu system must have been 'updated' because it's totally different & i just don't like it. To top it off i just put a random address in & found i can't select house number. I can select road name or a crossing & i can select where on the map i want the destination to end (great if i know where the house is located but not so great if i'm travelling somewhere i've never been before) but i can't select a house number on a road.
So either Garmin or TomTom. Can any of you recommend one around the £100 marker? HAS to allow me to select house number, that's non negotiable. I would prefer if the touch screen responded within 5 days of you pressing the screen too

Check them out, we have a Nuvi with lifetime maps , cant remember which one it is though, it's in the wife's handbag and she is asleep (cuddling her handbag....)0 -
Why not buy a cradle that does not require you to take the case off the phone?0

Pretty much what I was about to say, a cheap cradle from eBay will cost a fiver and solve your problems
If going to Europe, £3.

and £75 more expensive than what has been suggested by myself and Big Graeme0 -
Most of these appear to have adjustable grips...

New cradle is a marvellous idea...
...with one HUGE flaw...
...What about when my wife has to go somewhere she's unfamiliar with but without me?
Give her my phone?
What about when she's staying over for a few days (yes, this happens) at relatives (& a sat nav would be handy in the event roads get shut off (again has happened))? Pass up my phone for a few days?
So anyway, these sat navs - unlike the TomTom i got do they allow you to enter house numbers as well as road names?
I'll have to get on YouTube, see if i can see what some of them are like.0 -
You never mentioned anyone else use the device, and I'm guessing your wife doesnt have a smartphone of her own?
I used to have a Tomtom XL which would allow housenumbers as well as post codes. I had this back in 2007 mind, so I'm sure they are more advanced now!
When it broke (2 years after purchase) I then got the Tomtom app for my iphone (my job required me to drive all over the country so i wanted an app more detailed than the basic free ones) and as I will always buy iphones - as long as i have a working phone, i have a sat nav as the app is on whatever device i have. However this is only a more cost effective way if you are the only person requiring use of the device.
This thread is occuring on the motoring pages that may give you some hints as to which device to aim toward https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/52396120 -
Does your wife not have a smart phone at all? Google maps is great now to navigate with. Has in-built real time traffic.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0
