Best European city for single female

Got 10 days off in the first half in September.

Looking for 4-5 night stay in a major European city which is safe for a single 34 year old female travelling on their own.

I have been to Paris and hated it. Plus imo its not ideal for single ladies

I liked Prague, Dublin, Amsterdam and Malaga.

I am interested in culture, history and sampling the local cuisine

I prefer to fly, rather spending 2 days sitting on a coach.

The Mrs traveled to most major european cities in her 20s and early 30s on her own and never had any issues of safety and that included staying in hostels with shared rooms etc. She goes to Paris every few months on her own and similarly never had issues there either so not sure why you didnt feel safe there.

The usual suspects really come up like Barcelona, Berlin, Rome, Athens, Budapest, Lisbon etc

    Reykjavik?

Iceland has practically no crime, locals are super friendly and the country is amazing!

I would guess that you'll attract less unwanted attention in a Northern European city, so maybe consider Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Warsaw, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, etc.

As you liked Malaga then you could also think about any of the Spanish destinations, with Barcelona the obvious one, but Madrid, Seville, Cadiz and Valencia are also good.

I've been to Rome & Florence and felt safe - decent hotel in a busy/buzzing area.

Budapest is a very attractive city. Or somewhere closer to home such as Bruges or Dublin. Then there's Lisbon...

An embarrassment of riches, we're very lucky to be so close.

Plenty to do in Verona and maybe cheaper than some of the 'famous' destinations. Not only is it a lovely place with all the semi-fictional links to Romeo and Juliet but good for accessing Lake Garda, Vicenze, Padua (birthplace of Palladio) and even a day trip to Venice if you want. Once there, I found getting around by public transport (bus and train) really simple.

I've been to Krakow and never felt threatened at all. It's also chock full of history and historical sites and is really cheap to eat out.
Bruges is nice, as is Alicante and Assisi.
I always take a book to read while sitting in bars /restaurants.
    Normal people worry me.

Anywhere in Scandinavia or in Austria/Switzerland will be fine. Oslo is lovely, as is Stockholm

I recommend Copenhagen. Safe as anything, i didn't even see any police there ever, and people can leave their babies outside of restaurants in the prams while they go eat - that is how safe it is.

Culture wise there is a few museums, i would recommend going out of the city for a day, or heading into Christiania for a alternate day out (no laws there but nothing to be worried about, its a hippy/peace area)

Copenhagen is extremely friendly and everyone speaks brilliant English.

This is the safest place you will find, although the food was blander than the UK. Except the Danish pastries which are out of this World, the "Danish" pastries here in the UK are nothing like the real Danish ones, you will see for yourself if you go there.
    Owed out = lots.

I was going to recommend Copenhagen or Stockholm, interesting cities although restaurants and drinks are quite expensive.

I've travelled around Italy quite a bit by myself and loved it but did find that a single woman (or pair of young women) do attract more male attention than you would in many other countries. Most of the time it didn't bother me, but I was flashed at once, when sitting outside reading a book. I've also had to appeal to older Italian women on a couple of occasions to get men to stop following me and my friend. Some Italian men seem to have absorbed the message that English / American women are easy and may act accordingly. Although most of the attention is just harmless flirting, it can be annoying when you're just trying to go about your day to day business. Interestingly when I was on my own and working there, I never had any bother, as they took me for an Italian I think. Only when with friends (so they could hear us speaking English) or in tourist locations did I get approached.
