  • Afternoon all, been awol again :o

Just wondering how if anyone has any experience of housing associations and how things work about getting another house due to a relationship breakdown? I know it'll probably vary a whole lot from place to place but I'm just wondering how likely it is you'd get somewhere else and how long it might take. Tia if anyone knows anything x

    Good Saturday Elite :)

More lurking than anything at the minute but wanted to pop in to say Happy 50th Birthday to TS and 40th to Durham05.

TS hope you enjoy your party, missed the chat about what your wearing I'm guessing but I'm sure you will look beautiful whatever you chose.

May I also introduce Brewster, the newest member of our family aged 8 weeks.

If you lived here you would have to move in to a homeless hostel costing £650 a month plus £20 a week maintenance fee.

Then when somewhere became available you either take it or get taken off the homeless list. Even when the place is not suitable and would take thousands to make it habitable.

On the plus side you do get given 2 tins of paint :D

Sorry Lfab, my only experience of them is from years ago and was not a good one. I left a shared tenancy due to an abusive relationship and the other party refused to leave. He stayed put for months not paying the rent (unbeknown to me) before getting kicked out leaving me jointly liable for the debt :( I ended up staying with family with the kids before finding my own private rented accomodation.

Hope someone can offer some more useful utterings x

No sadly TS I am not in the middle. More south kent. Think BB is flying to Gatwick as have promised a minibus from there.

Will be a very good night and one I would love to share with my Elite friends as know very few people in RL except kids, mum and sister.

Early awaiting a pm with dress picture tomorrow from TS. Doesn't matter if you cut your head out of shot want to see the dress.

Snap hope DN is on the mend soon. You to saver sue.

If springdreams is around I think I remember rightly her country of birth as being south Africa. My sister is going to Durban Monday for 10 days as her oh is running a double marathon next Sunday.
To be honest her hubby just booked then told her late last year when dad was ill. She has been rushed off her feet since then but is now wondering what to do while there and where it is safe to go. Think she is so tired from last few months a lounger by the pool and dinner at the hotel will suit her fine but she wants to know the safety of the city and if there are any special excursions to look out for.

Any advice from anyone who has been would be greatly appreciated. She has now found out their flight returns via Dubai but her oh didn't thing to arrange a nice relaxing stop over:mad:
She wants to make the most of her visit as unlikely they will go back again.

    Tia

    Hello VT,

Yes you remembered correctly. My country of birth is South Africa :D

My suggestions for your sister are for her to leave ALL of her jewellery at home. Thieves can't tell whether your jewellery is genuine or plated, so are equally happy to take both off of you. Similarly keep all your cash, cards etc in your front pockets of coats, jeans etc. Under no circumstances should you carry any of your stuff around in a backpack type bag - it will get snatched off of her.

Bear in mind that unemployment is high, and there are no benefits whatsoever in South Africa. So crime is high because it is a way to make money. Your sister and BIL should therefore make sure that they never leave their possessions unattended, and keep all valuables as close as possible to their bodies so that they are difficult to snatch or pick pocket.

Do not hire an expensive car. Car hijacking is common in South Africa, and what may be considered a run of the mill car here will generally be considered a high end vehicle worth hijacking in South Africa. So hire a small common type car. No 4x4s, BMWs or Mercs.

Do not wander around the local area after dark unless you are in a large group.

Aside from that, meat and booze is cheap in South Africa and the sun is likely to be shining, albeit a bit cooler at the moment as it is winter there now. The people are friendly, the beaches are sandy. So have a lovely time.

Things to do in Durban would be to visit the shark museum and abattoir - fascinating to see the teeth, humungous jaws etc. Also a visit to the sugar cane plantations are worthwhile. South Africans holiday in Durban because it has the most fantastic beaches.

And a Durban curry - you cannot go to Durban without trying a Durban curry - yum yum yum!
