You need to instruct your own solicitor to prepare the contracts for sale with your input. This is something YOU must do, nobody else is going to do it for you. What kind of memorandum has solicitors details when the seller has not even had quotes and decided who to instruct? OP it's over to you if you actually want to get the house sold!0

In which case I'd get right on the phone to the EA and get details of the solicitor! You can't just sit back and expect stuff to happen, you have to keep in contact or they'll think you're happy for it to take forever.[STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]

The EA chose my solicitor as they were going to extend the lease for the new buyer. I haven't heard from the solicitor at all yet.
There are a few alarm bells ringing here.
EAs often refer you to a solicitor simply because the solicitor pays the EA a big referral fee (not because the solicitor is any good).
Then the solicitor charges you more because they have to pay the EA.
You might be better off finding another solicitor - can any friends/family recommend solicitors they have used?
If the EA is getting a referral fee, don't ask the EA's advice on changing solicitor. And expect the EA to get stroppy when you tell them you've done it.0 -
Obviously don't want to cost the buyer money if I pull out but if I've had no contact with solicitor then I guess the buyer would not have paid anything yet?0
-
If you want to pull out let your Estate Agent know, if you want to sell then instruct a solicitor.0
-
BTW it isn't the solicitor who extends the lease, it will be you.0

seriously, get on the phone and get your own solicitor, working for you.
It may be that the buyer is waiting around for you to start things.[STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]

I have found out the solicitor was sent the memorandum as well several weeks ago but has not made contact with me to start proceedings.0
-
Ok, seriously. I'll break this down for you.
Find a solicitor YOURSELF.
Tell him you want him to sell your house for you.
Tell the estate agents to send him the sales memorandum.
Leave the rest up to the solicitor that YOU have chosen.[STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]

OR stick with the sol that your EA has chosen for you, pay hundreds of pounds into the EA's pocket for the privilege. Your choice.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...
