Arriving at Heathrow

I'm getting a flight which is due to arrive at Heathrow at 3.50 pm (on a Saturday, in August). I then need to travel to Manchester but am just wondering what my chances are of catching the last train from Euston at 9.00 pm (travelling to Euston by tube). Taking into account time to go through immigration etc (as an EU passport holder with one of the new chipped passport and with hold luggage to collect), likelihood of flight being delayed etc what are my chances of making it?

Your chances are excellent - you've maybe a couple of hours leeway. Your flight being delayed or your baggage going astray (waiting around to report it) are the likely areas of risk

it is about an hour on the tube from heathrow to euston so if you can get out of the airport by 7.30pm then you will make your train

from any terminal take the piccadilly line to green park and change to victoria line for euston

21.00 is the last direct virgin train but if you are running late the 21.43 to birmingham new street and then change to cross country for manchester piccadilly would get you home

if you land at 3.50, unless you are extremely unlucky you will be looking for the tube station by 5pm and will have close to 3 hours to kill at Euston.

Have you priced up a connecting flight for Heathrow to Manchester?

I haven't looked at the price of flights onto Manchester because I can't guarantee what time I will get arrive and don't want to miss a connecting flight. At least with the trains they are every hour until 9pm and I can just buy a ticket that I can use on any of them.

    I'm so sorry for trying.

If you book your connection on the same ticket the airline will make sure you make it to Manchester should you miss your flight.

The airlines do sell flexible tickets that would allow you to take the next 'plane with an empty seat. Obviously these cost a good deal more than flights at fixed times, but your flexible train ticket will also cost a good deal more than a non-flexible advance purchase one.
