And more importantly, in the event of a serious fire, they won't know one of your children was there.
They never check in the number of occupants. We always book a 2 adults + 2 children family room and later decide whether to take 1 or 2 or 0 of the grandchildren with us.

Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

We never got caught but we always went past reception in two groups. We always agreed that the worst case scenario was that I would sleep overnight in the car. We always like to be honest but in this case you can't. If you ask them they will always say NO. 'Health & Safety'. They haven't got a clue who is in the hotel at any particular time, so fire scare stories are rubbish.

You like to be honest but can't? Why? Can't you book the correct amount of rooms for the number of people staying? It isn't about honesty, it's about penny pinching.

The hotel is renting a room out. This mother knows she can very satisfactorily live in the one room without any problems and without inconveniencing anyone. She doesn't need two rooms. Why do you want her to have two rooms?

When ours were little a sleeping bag and spare pillow did for a 2/3 yr old on the floor . I didn't want to sleep apart from my husband the night before a holiday -or in a strange town. I would check in then text the room number or meet him at the door if a key was needed .
Now they are older we buy two rooms but it's not as much fun as bunking in together .

The booker accepts the terms and conditions when making the booking, and signs the registration card on arrival.

I'm the same - I always book a family room at TL (Premier Inn too) and they only take details of the lead name in the room. I could have one, 2 or 3 more guests in the room with me and the hotel wouldn't know if I did, so to suggest the hotel would know for insurance/fire purposes seems incorrect to me.

    Yes really

What is most frustrating about threads like these and over occupancy, is that hotel staff go through fire training several times a year. I have sat and openly wept (in training!) at videos of horrendous fires involving multiple occupation in hotels and other institutions all within my memory, and still, the public want to know how to over occupy rooms on the quiet to save £29 or whatever a room is at Travelodge these days on a deal. I Really Really don't get it. MSE gone mad if you ask me. But what would I know.
