I was in Sainsburys buying the 50p cans of tuna. A man was moaning about he wanted his shepherd's pie and he thought it was the end of the world.

As I said, do love the checking of our products that are sold to us.:o
Do you want the whole factory to be checked and the machines stripped down every night to check no metal or other bits have snapped off during the day ?0 -
How do you expect every single item to be checked as it leaves the factory ?

If that happens, prices of every factory produced good will go up in price. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Not only price increase. It is a practical impossibility.0 -

Evidently you do not know how food is produced in a factory environment .
The manufactures have metal detectors to find items in food as they pass down the end of the food line.
Was it the fact this manufacture did not put this system in place or bad maintenance that caused this recall. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -

yes detection systems are available- but it is inevitable that some things will get through, especially if only very small pieces are involved ( or bigger pieces that have been ground into small pieces). Nothing can be 100% reliable0 -

I do, I watched a programme last week. The manufactures have metal detectors to find items in food as they pass down the end of the food line.
In the programme I saw one manufacturer had a metal detector, but this does not mean EVERY manufacturer has one.Was it the fact this manufacture did not put this system in place
I haven't seen any proof this manufacturer actually had one. I suspect they didn't, as it would be plain silly to buy a metal detecting system, and not use it.or bad maintenance that caused this recall.
Neither, it was a society that has grown up thinking someone else has to take responsibility for what they put in their mouth. So at the slightest chance there may be a foriegn object they have to recal the entire batch, because todays society can't cope with putting a piece of metal in their mouth then taking it out again.0 -

A company JS own label ready meals will have metal detector.
If they did not, they would not be supplying JS.
The question is, why did not pick up the metal.
Though the products may not actually be contaminated. They just can not find a part of a machine.0
