A C-Max might also be worth considering. It's built on the same underpinnings as the Focus, but it is a taller (uglier) car. You may find the higher seating position and extra headroom in a car that's smaller the Mondeo is the right combination for you.

Hmmm. My wife has had Focuses for many years, but has serious back issues and at the last change she was persuaded to go for a C-Max by the salesman. Taller and slightly easier to get into for someone with a bad back, but mightily ugly and the height takes the edge off the handling. It feels very top-heavy when you get a wiggle on, and it's very hard to see out of the paper bag you have to wear so that no-one can see you driving it. Did I say it was ugly? All the clean, sharp lines of the Focus have gone, replaced by lumpy curves and creases that remind me of an overweight woman in a bikini. It is very easy to drive, but so uninvolving you might as well be curled up on the back seat having a snooze. A thoroughly competent car, and I can't wait to see the back of it.

I've owned both a Mondeo and a Focus (plus two CMaxs)

    Preferred the Mondeo myself.

However, I was doing 30-50k a year mainly motorway miles.

You definitely want petrol for the mileage you're doing unless it's a once a week 150 mile motorway run.

If you do a lot of town driving I would go for the Focus as it's better suited to the tighter conditions, the Mondeo is better on longer runs, more comfortable.

If you need space, the Mondeo has a much bigger boot and more rear legroom.

I'd test drive one of each and see what you think.

    Under 8000 miles?
The two considerations for me would be are they largely Mway miles and how many folks-&-baggage are you shifting?

As if you do a lot of Mway work &/or if you shuffle folks & things a lot, the Mondeo every time. The Focus "boot space" has to be seen to be believed (and in my case, laughed at, but I do Mway work & then shift teenaged sons & scouts out of office hours.)

If that doesn't clarify matters, test drive. Honestly, get a feel for both cars & pick the one you enjoyed driving more.

Find a focus with a space saver and you get a bigger boot.
