  • Not enough!

I've got two at uni and a house full of junk :)
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)
  • Money and Condoms! loads of both ;)

One of these will be provided free by the bucket-load, I'll let you guess which one...

What ever you take, make sure it's not expensive as guaranteed somebody else will burn a whole in it/drop it/steal it etc

Bedding, towels, at least one set of cutlery, plate, bowl, mug & glass (more if less inclined to wash up), couple of pans & I agree with the kitchen scissors. Be prepared to stash anything reasonably nice in your room.
  • as for other stuff to take... now i'm going to be a second year student, i know i will only want to take plate/bowl/mug/glass and some cutlery, and a pan, and try and share the other kitchen stuff with my housemates.

you might need to take bedding, perhaps some of it is already provided. make sure you buy the right size bedding for the bed of course :)

books, some lined paper, a folder, pens, etc - but most of this you can buy as you go along frm the student union or shops in town etc

a laptop, maybe a printer but i didn't use mine that much, and my flatmates didn't have one so they would borrow mine anyway - perhaps you could borrow someone's when you get there/use one at the uni library

toiletries...toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash stuff, moisturiser etc etc - just look at whatever you use now, and take it with you!:)

some change for the washers/dryers etc! 20ps/50ps are very handy ;)

perhaps you might want to take some nice going out clothes, in case you have a fresher's ball

last year i felt i had to get everything and forgot that i was going to be living in a city much like my own, and so i know now i don't really need that much - if i can survive now with the things i have already, i can just take that with me and i should be fine :) and if i didn't have anything, it wasn't a big deal because i could just walk into town and buy it.

    hope this helps!
  • oh - and one more thing - make sure anything expensive like a laptop is kept out of sight and that your window is shut, there were quite a few robberies at the beginning of term, and my laptop was taking from a window open an inch, on the first floor! they just pulled it out (from a couple of metres away an' all!) i don't want to worry anyone but i'm really careful and it still happened.

With the bedding I'd suggest getting a double duvet, even if you're in a single bed in halls for your first year - quite a lot of student houses for 2nd/3rd years have double beds now and it saves you having to get a new one :)

Double on a single works fine, just fold it over on those rare occasions you make your bed ;) also nice to have the extra to snuggle up in :)

They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!
  • Take loads of people to carry your gear into the halls. My daughters rooms always seemed to be at the furthest possible distance from the nearest entrance and the more people to carry and hold doors open the better. Also they can run out and buy you all those things you've forgotten.
