Modern cars - clutches

My wife's Kia suffered a clutch failure at just over three years old. All sorted under the warranty.0

Whether a clutch is hydraulic or cable says nothing about the feel or the travel or the weight. That's entirely down to the ratios of actuation and the springs on the pressure plate.
And, if anybody thinks otherwise, they're more than welcome to get out of their i10 into my series Land Rover, which has a hydraulic clutch that gives your left leg a better workout than an exercise DVD on fast-forward. Don't even ask about the brake pedal. I hate to think what that'd be like without the servo, like most were.0 -
Being a dinosaur, I always sit in traffic with the clutch depressed (unless it is a mega delay), whereas most young people I know seem to put the car in neutral just about every time they have to stop.
Putting the car in neutral when stopped is not only the correct thing to do but also best for the clutch.0 -

Mine has no brake servo and the brakes have a lovely positive feel to them. The clutch isn't cable or hydraulic, it's operated directly via a short cross-shaft which does mean that it is affected by engine movement.0 -

I must've imagined changing the fluid in the clutch, then...Gloomendoom wrote: »Mine has no brake servo and the brakes have a lovely positive feel to them. The clutch isn't cable or hydraulic, it's operated directly via a short cross-shaft which does mean that it is affected by engine movement.

I had a series II, a IIa and a III, and they all had a hydraulic clutch. Can't speak for the series 1 though.
The brakes worked well enough to lock the bartreads up on a wet road going forwards, those new fangled twin leading shoe brakes on the 108 self servo'd forwards, but did nothing in reverse.
When you drive a Landrover, you soon realise that it is invisible as people pull out about 10 feet from you, when you are bouncing along at 30 on bartreads :eek:I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Mine's a late s3 88", so 11" TLS and servo. Decent modern winter road tyres, though, on Disco steels. When you drive a Landrover, you soon realise that it is invisible as people pull out about 10 feet from you, when you are bouncing along at 30 on bartreads
Round these parts, people just assume you're a farmer. Some days, every other vehicle in town is a Defender.0 -

You certainly must have imagined it if you changed the clutch fluid in mine. There isn't anywhere to put it.
Item 22 in the diagram is the cross-shaft that transfers the motion from the pedal to the clutch operating fork.0 -
When I drove a manual I always put the thing in neutral at traffic lights. But both DDs were taught not to - when we talked to the driving instructor about it he said it was all about showing off clutch control to the examiner.0
