Why did the markets go up so much?

I don't know how people are attributing this to US jobs data rather than the general election. If you look at futures markets, things started moving as soon as exit polls come out and throughout the night. By comparison, the US jobs data hardly moved the FTSE 100.

    This is true.

I attribute the move more to the general election, but suffice to say if US Data came in weak it would have had FTSE going the other way.

But jobs data was definitely the cause for all rallies across europe.

Simply confidence that the country is in good hands and can operate efficiently, without the former restrictions of having to rely on others. It will get better.

So why did the Eurofirst 300 rise by more than the FTSE 100?

.. and the other countries whose stock markets rose more than Britain?

  • Maybe it has a knock on effect? A lot of world business is conducted through London. This paired with US jobs data probably caused markets world wide to go up just due to confidence in the world markets perhaps?

If its a knock on effect then it must be The rise in Europe knocking on to Britain, because their stock markets rose more than ours.

Too many factors at play to look at it so simplistically

Glen, pesimism will always get you what you deserve, but I'm sure you have a contradictory answer for that. Just be happy with you lot and thankful that the markets are going in the right direction and will probably continue for a while yet.

I asked if you had anything to support your assertion that the FTSE rise was due to the UK election result - when the rest of Europe rose by more than Britain.. Since you changed the subject without answering I can only assume the answer is 'No'
