Why did the markets go up so much?

Can someone explain to me the relationship between what party is in office and the effect that has on the markets? Just a brief overview would be great.
As an investor I'm very happy with the turnout of the polls :jbut I don't really understand why the markets increased so dramatically.

Probably nothing to do with the UK election because the rise is worldwide At this moment
 FTSE 100 7,028.76+2.06%
 Eurofirst 300 1,587.07+2.59%
Shanghai 4,206.76+2.30%“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0

Some sectors have risen as markets expect them to do better such as banks (levies smaller), utilities (no freeze on prices), house builders and estate agents (no mansion tax) and outsourcing companies. Having said that I agree with Glen Clark that the worldwide rise has helped as well.0

            It was a relief rally0

 Sums up matters succinctly.
A Labour\SNP coalition could best be described as unhelpful to business.0

The message is that conservatives are the (only) party for jobs, prosperity, low taxation, business and a sound economy.
 Had you missed that?
The result was o much better than that which the pollsters had foretold that markets responded accordingly. A sort of financial heaving a sigh of relief. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

So why did the Tory led Britain lag behind the European Average?
 Taken from the front page of the FT at close today;
 FTSE 100 +2.32%
Eurofirst 300 + 2.83%“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0

Um. Different shares for a start. As important as the UK is. We're not the only news story in town.0

Yet after 5 years of Conservative led Government Bank Levies have never been higher - so much so HSBC (one that never needed a taxpayer bailout) is planning to emigrate“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0

            a sound economy.
as long as you ignore the doubling of the National Debt, and count rent increases as GDP growth instead of inflation
... oh and add on an imaginary figure for illegal drugs and prostitution too ..
PS and forget we've lost our credit rating and UK bond yields are more than 3 times Germany..“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0
