I cant give you an answer OP but im pretty certain you dont drop the oil and remove the filter at the same time on this engine or you lose engine oil pressure,if this is the case then maybe garage thrashed the engine to restore oil pressure but in fact killed the bearings due to no oil pressure,do the aa? have a technical dept you could query on what i say or maybe seat direct?
Doesn't matter what the oil pressure is, it's being dropped, the engine shouldn't even be running.
If you have to thrash an engine to get oil pressure then there is a problem already. Oil pumps are typically splined to the crankshaft so should pump the second the starter hits the flywheel.0 -
Ok say if the bearings are damaged, how much did you reckon it would to cost to fix? In terms of a legal standpoint I've bought the veh back to them to solve the problem and they haven't. I've checked the citizen advice page and trading standards and I'm within my right to have the veh fixed at another garage and reclaim payment from Halfords, if not then contact their motor trade association, or as a final measure small claims court.0

Often it will be more economic to replace the complete engine than repair. It sounds like yours may well be beyond economic repair which obviously isn't going cheap.0

to the op when was the car serviced dates & mileage, was it done always on time & inline with what seat recommend. what oil was used on all services these parts can contribute to oil pumps & blockages inside the engine but if thats the case halfords would not know without opening up the engine0

The annoying thing is any garage will be insured for accidents like this, it won't cost them a penny, but the person responsible will be so afraid for their job that they'll do whatever it takes to cover it up.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

What book of nonsense have you dredged, "The annoying thing is any garage will be insured for accidents like this, it won't cost them a penny" from? The idea that incompetence is rewarded or all insurance is totally free?0

Replacing big end bearings isn't a massive hassle. But it won't just be them damaged or significantly worn from no oil.0

You know that's not what i'm saying....... There will be insurance in place for this sort of thing, they probably pay upward of £5000 a year for it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Shouldn't be that hard. If the sump's full of sludge and gunk that's breaking loose, and has blocked the pick-up, then it's sludged, and Halfrauds just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. If the sump's cleanish and the pick-up clear, then...captainawsome wrote: »The seat dealer will most likely see mashed up big end bearings with damaged conrods and crankshaft, caused by oil starvation. That's the easy bit. The hard bit is saying why. Halfords will argue the pump failed/gallery blocked/pickup blocked and it was already like that when you took it to them. In reality I think they've run it with no oil by accident and didn't quite catch it in time to stop the bearings being damaged terminally. But proving that might be quite hard0
