Box Junction on a roundabout

A yellow box junction is a non-endorsable fixed penalty, dealt with by means of a penalty charge notice same as a parking offence, do they really want to know about parking tickets as well?
Stopping in a "Keep Clear" is just discourteous, it isn't illegal, so there wouldn't be a penalty.
1. My renewal notice asks for all motoring-related convictions and fixed penalties. I don't know whether they disregard non-endorsables.
2. Stopping in a "Keep Clear" may be discourteous, but it's also inconsiderate, which is illegal.0 -

Er... no. Just because something is discourteous doesn't mean it's illegal. Don't forget that not everything in the highway code is based on law.0 -

Er ... yes.
I didn't say discourteous driving was illegal, but that inconsiderate driving is. Road Traffic Act 1988 section 3. Punishable by a fine and 3-9 points or discretionary disqualification.0 -

hmmm, but I was on a roundabout so I couldn't turn right, there are only left exits as you go round :rotfl:
In all seriousness I didnt block anyone, was only there for a few seconds and didnt cause any impact on the flow of traffic - but I should still have waited. I am kicking myself as this is something I never normally do. I normally whinge at the wife when people drive into box sections then can't exit. Own fault if anything happens.
I guess I will just have to sit tight and wait and see if anything arrives in the post.:)0 -
Im with Churchills, never been asked either ......
Re - box junctions, many moons ago when i passed my test, i'd had a good test, forgot to indicate once and thought i may have blown it, but didnt know whether i'd passed or failed and was driving back to the test centre had about 500 yards to go, through a set of traffic lights on a busy high street ........ the lights had a box junction in the middle! As i approached the green light i could see i wouldnt be able to clear the box junction, so i sat on the line at a green light, i had a flash, loud music, window down, arm out the window driver, flashing and honking and shouting at me behind. I just looked in my rear view mirror and ignored him, the lights turned red and i would have been sitting in the box junction still if i'd moved forward (bang in the middle of it too). I waited for the sequence to change and had a clear exit the other side of the box junction, drove the last 500 yards to the text centre pulled over as directed and was told i'd passed ...... i swear to this day its because i kept my cool and didnt feel pressurised to move forward ! Who knows, what would have happened, but i'm convinced i would have failed!!
I think the only time you will get a fine later in the post, is if its caught on camera, if they cant prove it with photographic evidence it will kicked out!0 -
Box Junctions are interesting, in that most experienced drivers use them somewhat differently to the exact HC rules.
The HC says: You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. This implies that each vehicle would wait at the entrance to the box for the road ahead to be clear before proceeding.
Of course, that's not what happens in practice. Normally, drivers determine whether the exit is likely to be clear by the time they get there. In some slow-moving traffic scenarios this gets more difficult and hence drivers get caught out as in the OP's example.0 -

According to the OP, two police officers witnessed the offence. Why on earth would they need photographic evidence?0 -

If it were me receiving something through the post, i would want photographic evidence of it, im sure most would to! Otherwise you could be accused on doing all sorts, admittedly the OP knows he/she done it, but thats no proof! Big brother is watching us allFine you on the spot different story thats my thoughts on it anyhow
