opinions/offers on the SE W810i

I was looking to buy a Sony Ericsson W810i as my current mobile phone is pretty ancient and I liked the idea of having a camera/music phone, but was suprised at the varying cost of the phone on different networks.

I would like to have it on vodafone, as most of my friends and family are on that network but it seems the most expensive to buy the phone on - so much so I could buy a higher spec SE K800i on another network for around the same price (which seems mad to me!)

I just wondered if anyone has used/got a W810i and can tell me if its if the features - camera/media player are any good or can recommend any other similar phones, as I wanted to have a decent media/cameraphone but I am on a bit of a tight budget, so if anyone knows any deals or can give me any advice its welcome!

Oh and I was looking to buy a new phone in the next couple of weeks as its for my birthday treat!

it's similar to K750, but you can use whatever headphones you like and 512 meg card comes with it. Orange is cheapest, buy PAYG from Carphone warehouse and use Quidco. Money you save you can use to get it unlocked in a market for about £5. Voda PAYG SIMS are free, as with most networks.

I like it a lot, does everything I need for the minute. Walkman is good, battery life is better than I thought it would be, and 2MP camera isn't too bad as it has autofocus. Obviously not as good as K800 which isn't that much more money, but I don't need 3G and I prefer a LED light to a xenon flash as it's more useful, even if it's not as good for pics. Personally I think it looks better than the K800 and K810. Keypad is also better IMO for texting. Thankfully doesn't have joystick either, which can be prone to breaking. (like my old K700)

Depends what you want, but the W810i is a GSM (well EDGE) phone only and not 3G, so no video calls.

Compared to other SonyEricsson phones it is pretty old now, so should be able to pick it up cheaply.

thanks for all your advice. I checked out W810i the orange at carphone warehouse, but while i was searching on a price comparison site I found that a vodafone SE K800i was on offer for £79.99 at the link (on hotukdeals) with it being cheaper than the W810i & having better features I've snapped up one of them

I agree with you spiggot I prefer the look of the W810i more than the K800i, but i saw some photos from the K800i's camera that were pretty impressive and along with the offer, I thought it was a good deal, that said I've never had a phone with a joystick so here's hoping its problem free!

Just ordered W810i on phones4U for £79.95 + £10 for airtime on Virgin. Went thro Quidco should get £10 back.

it is a good phone - i have used it for a year. Decent battery, god reception, good and easy to navigate through features

I have a W800i and my joystick has been dying a very slow and frustrating death. It finally died for good on monday. A friend has a SE Ksomething and advised me against getting a phone with a joystick but I still got one. NEVER AGAIN.
I can send it away for repair for about £20 but how long will it last before it dies again? I'm looking to get a new phone and sell the W800i for spares or repairs.
