Hungarian Florints - exchange here or there?

We've booked an apartment in Budapest, and the owner suggests we bring a minimum of florints, and use the Exchange Booths on the street or the Ibusz Travel Agency there. Is this correct? we've always exchanged currency before we travel. I thought exchange booths had the worst rates. Any thoughts please? Thank you.

    He wasn't lying, look here

Much the same as the wholesale rate.

Otherwise you can use the right plastic and an ATM in Hungary.

    Either will work.

the trouble i found in the past with exchanging abroad ( eastern europe ) is that they advertise a good rate , you go in and they understand english ok , you hand over payment and get back less than you was expecting , when you query this they suddenly forget how to speak english so you endup giving up and going on your way

this is just what i have found

If you have a good debit card that doesn't charge fees, I would recommend just withdrawing cash from ATMs. I've done that on many trips to Eastern Europe and have never run into any problems.

I always buy currency abroad no matter where I go and always get a better rate than in the UK.

I've never found that. Although it's years since I changed currency in Eastern Europe - now that they have these new fangled things there called ATMs.

I bet even if they did rip you off, it'd be less of a rip-off than changing the money in the UK. UK rates for minor currencies are usually appaling, especially on the high street.

Thanks for all the replies about Forints (yes, I was wrong with Florints ... old enough to remember Florins which I probably muddled them up with!)
