How to stop people parking on my drive?

I'll admit to never ceasing to be surprised that strangers think its just fine and dandy to park on someone else's land - but that does seem to be the case .
We once had someone attempt to park on our front garden, clearly planted up, plus gravelled.
Their reason? "There is nowhere else to park" Yeah, that's because the party your friend is keeping me awake with is heaving and parking on my garden or across the bottom of my driveway, blocking me in at 12am is totally unacceptable.
Having said that, moving the car on who was blocking our car in was the party's undoing. I touched the car. Bloke didn't like that, so got verbally abusive when I refused to move my hands off the paintwork of the car on my land. He threatened to slit me. Police came within 10 minutes and broke up the party. Was a lovely road until that point!
OP- I'd go for painting PRIVATE on your drive too - cheapest solution which you can add to in the future if needed.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I agree one should not temporarily stop or park in a dangerous position but consider this,,there are hundreds of drivers of light and larger commercial vehicles out there every day providing services to domestic and commercial dwellings who have to deal with this kind of situation.
We have people in built up areas with two or more cars all cluttering up the street.
We have crazy parking enforcement where no common sense is used and there is no legal dispensation save for blue light services
We increasingly have a public who want stuff delivered driven by busy work and family commitments and the dramatic rise in internet services and shopping.
Caught in the middle is man/woman in truck or van
They want to deliver and provide the service and if they can stop or even park for a short time where it isnt dangerous then they can do that but why should they risk a ticket/fine/gobby neighbour? No,,they will drive on and that person wont get their delivery or service.
If you were that person, you might not be a happy bunny. What would you do? ring the supplier and complain?
I am one of those man in van people and i have tightened up my act a lot. If i cant stop or park, i just mark up the job as "unable to park due to x/y/z" and eject it/move on. Whilst we have lunatic traffic enforcement im not going through the hassle of appealing tickets and im certainly not paying them !Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
If you struggled to tell it was your parking when you viewed the house, it's not entirely surprising others do also. Private painted across the front would seem to be the easiest solution. Others have mentioned bollards and chains but that involves you moving these to get in and out yourself. If it was me I'd try a sign up first, followed by Private in paint followed by chain/bollards if neither of the first two, easier, cheaper options worked.Make £2025 in 2025

As I say, deliveries have special dispensation regards parking rules.
Those providing a service less so, so they need to plan ahead. Or just totally ignore the rules, and cause congestion and danger. One particular van parks on double yellows in a cycle lane during the morning rush hour to clean the windows of a local nightclub. Do the windows need cleaning at that time? I'd argue no, but that's when they choose to do it, the traffic backs up, and I have to negotiate their dangerously parked van on my bicycle.
Rules, signs and yellow paint don't achieve anything if not backed up with enforcement.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Most councils will give a dispensation on payment for an individual event but I can't find any that give blanket dispensation for deliveries. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Where is this documented?
Google for "universal service provider".
Of course, while this makes certain parking legal that would otherwise be legal, the moral obligation to park safely and considerately still holds, as I frequently have to inform various drivers who think they have carte blanche.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. That appears to apply only to the Royal Mail.0 -

Nope, any liveried delivery vehicle used to collect or deliver post. If you search, most councils have amendments that make this clear. They tend to reference definitions in Postal Services acts of 2000 and 2011.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television.
