I suppose it would be difficult to calculate how many hours each Avon Rep does and the effort they make to carry out their self-employment.

We have one Mum at the school gates handing out the latest book and I believe she gives her customers her email addy so they can place their orders through that. They collect their orders from her house so she doesn't even bother to visit them in theirs.

Then you could have others that put in the work. They might post them through the letterbox and call around the following week to collect the magazine/orders then deliver the orders to those that placed their orders.
  • Would it best for me to do it for a few weeks to get an idea before telling them because you have to tell tc a change within a month I think then maybe I'd get a better idea

    I really wish I could advise you, but I can't.. :(

You'll have an initial outlay with Avon which might spur you on in the first few weeks to make sales even if it's only to recover those initial costs. I would imagine that Avon Reps don't make much unless they put in a lot of effort.

You would put in the hours you choose to. Like anything though, the more you put in the more you get out.

Not sure with tax credits tbh. They would want an estimate of your earnings along with hours worked. Funnily enough it would push you over 30 hours to get the 30 hours wtc bonus.

It's hard to predict and I don't know what you should do but if you do it tax credits will want your UTR asap (unique tax reference which you get once registered as self employed).

May help asking on some work from home boards somewhere as they are awash with mums doing Avon and various other similar things.

Just to add: please don't be swayed by mums/people online or elsewhere claiming they earn lots of money. The hard sell is rubbish and designed to try and sign you up under them or try and promote it as a fabulous business bringing in a fortune for little work to gain interest (and probably falsely boost themselves)

  • I was thinking of doing one day a week while my kids are at school which iv worked out with traveling to and from the school would give me say 3-4 hours I don't want to do it as a big thing just something to help get a bit of extra money as I already have a part time job over 4 days and I'm doing an in work course which is need a day at home to work on so I'm not thinking of getting over the 30 hour threshold to be honest

Ah,ok. I'm not sure 3-4 hours would be worth it tbh. Remember people aren't always in,don't always leave books out,may not be in for delivery of their orders etc and the income from 3-4 hours wouldn't be much.

I know some do it online these days but I think (could be wrong) they put the legwork in first

  • I think youd be best looking into it more before deciding.

I've known a few people who have done it and not found it worthwhile as its a lot of time for not much money.
To be honest it's not really the money I'm doing it for its more to keep me busy which may earn me abit of say pocket money

In that case, have you looked into other MLM companies and work from home opportunities? There may be something else you prefer that won't have you traipsing around so much :)
