I just moved out of a shared flat,2,adults we gave a meter reading on 1-4-14 and again on 1-4-15 when we moved out.

The yearly water bill was 514.79. Does this sound pretty high or around average?

Sounds high to me. We're two adults, shower every day (not power shower), dishwasher on 3-4 times a week, same with the washing machine, occasional car washing and garden watering. Our annual bill is around £350

Yes it sounds high to me too, Showers used a couple of times a day maybe, washing machine a few times a week. Heating on in the winter but thats about it really. The property was up 4 flights of stairs so no car washing/gardening for us!

But its based on actual readings I assume thats whats been used, so theres not alot im able to do apart from pay i guess

Since water prices vary up to 250% by region, any 'average' figure is meaningless.
What would be expensive in the Thames Water region would be very cheap in the SWW region.
Are both opening and closing reads based on actual or estimated figures? If the opener is estimated, it may be a catch up bill.

What do you mean by 'just moved out of a shared flat,2,adults'?

If there were just two adults the average annual consumption would be approx. 110 cubic metres. You can check this on your meter readings and bill.

As said above, it then depends on where you live and if you pay for Surface Water Drainage.(SWD)

It is pointless people stating how much they pay unless they show the area where they live, their consumption and if they pay SWD.
