How to view search results

Options
I've come across something which seems to be pretty basic functionality which is missing. If I am logged out using the new default forum version or even if I am logged in with the new version, I am unable to click on a search result and be taken to that post. If however I log in and change to the "old version" of the forum it works without issue.

The problem seems to be that in the old version, there is an extra link which takes you to the appropriate post. In the new version, that post part of the url is missing so you cannot see the full post unless you go to the thread and find it manually based up the time & date it was posted.

Surely this is an essential part of the search function to be able to click on a search result and see the post?

Below is the old version and you can see by the link that the post number is included in the url:

The only clickable link below is for the thread, not the post.

Yes, that is broken in the new forum version.

Thanks fermi. I would have searched for existing threads but you know how pointless that would have been :rotfl: I did scroll back within this forum and didn't see anything so better posted twice than not at all.

It's way more than twice. ;)
I have answered similar questions about that before, but you are right that the search function (or even manual search) is unlikely to find the posts.
They are scattered amongst lots of threads with all sorts of different titles.

There was an attempt by MSE to put some structure to the reporting of bugs in the new system. But it was far from ideal.
And (it seems) most of those earlier posts are no longer visible to us.

Now it all seems to be based around reporting bugs via email.
How does that help other members to know that a problem has already been raised?

Gosh you're not suggesting that this is a well documented problem that has been swept under the carpet are you ;) I'm sure there was thorough testing done before roll out so it's obviously user error on my part :p

It's good that we can still laugh and joke about it. ;)

We're now in June and the search function still isn't working. Has this been logged with the techies yet or is the issue being ignored in the hope we'll go away and stop complaining about a most basic function of a forum?
