If you are just looking for a fun drive that has low running costs and is very reliable, get an MX-5. You can get a good one for £4,000 and for around £2,000 you can get a well-looked-after Mk2.

    +1

Having fun in motoring isnt about driving everywhere in 0-60 in 3 seconds and topping out at 170mph. That gets boring very quickly.

I love MX5s. Have had 3 so far. Great fun cars. Great driving cars too.

To be honest I don't think you need to be thinking about the other 47 payments as you are going from nothing (ever ??) to a GTR I am pretty sure you will also be going from road to tree / wall fairly quickly as well.

In fact, if you get 'lucky', you may kill yourself before the first payment is taken from your account.

Know nothing about them but quick look on google shows very big bills. The engine is supposed to be bulletproof but a common problem is called bellhouse rattle caused when a bearing on the end of the flywheel shaft moves in the housing.
They say at present theres no cure but a repair will cost £738.Also if the gearbox itself gives problems they say nissan will not at present supply any gearbox parts but will supply a new box for £16000.

I heard somewhere that a new front bumper on the GTR will set you back £10'000+

And as for OP, you may think your swimming in cash, but i've personally witnessed people taking out finance on big expensive cars, only for them to lose their job 4 weeks later and end up with nothing.

The best finance quote for the car is £640 a month over 4 years with a £16k deposit (car worth 60k).

You can buy impressive cars outright with the £16k deposit and save yourself £600/month for track days. Hell, you could even afford a decent track car to go with your road car for £16k.

    This ^^

Quite frankly i'm old enough (not THAT old) and wise enough to know that having a "nice" car for every day commuting/etc, is just not viable these days.

People have so little respect for other peoples property, that it'll just get trashed in no time at all.

Buy an everyday barge and then buy an outright track day car to keep in the garage for nice sunny weekends.

Get an Audi RS6. Much more practical than a GTR ;) 2004/2005 ones are around £10k then you've got £6k in the bank to run it for a year.

If you can't afford to buy a depreciating asset outright then you can't really afford it at all. Buying a car which is more than your entire gross annual salary using finance is a short cut to disaster. If you really want one then save up for it first and make sure you research exactly how much it will cost to run.

It's not even that; a super-firm sports car is great on the open road in good conditions, but a total pain in stop-start traffic on rutted, crappy roads. A week of commuting and you'll wish you'd bought something softer with better gearing, that does more than 15mpg.

If it were me, with a £16k budget, I'd get a big flappy estate, probably diesel for about £6k, a car trailer for £2k and a caterham/kit car with the change.

But then I'm an old git (30).
