Data Only SIMM

I intend to install a cheap smartphone in my car and use with an App which should continually give me an audible warning if I go above the speed limit. Was not planning to install SIMM since GPS wors without.
Unfortunately the app supplier tells me (after I had made the puchase) I need a continual Internet connection for the app to work as intended. This means I need to purchase and install a SIMM with will give me Internet connection, but how do I do this cheaply. All plans/PAYG include minutes and texts in addition to data. This means I am paying for stuff I do not intend to use.
Is it possible to have a data only SIMM.

Yes, it's entirely possible to have a "Data Only" SIM. Examples include EE, Vodafone (amongst others.) Seeing as your device is 'unlocked' you could order free SIMs to see which network offers the best cellular performance when you are travelling? It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0

'Three' 3-2-1 is a pure PAYG with 1p/Mb. So is Delight Mobile that use EE signal if you prefer.
And it's Subscriber Identification/identity Module, not SIMM.
SIMM was a type of PC memory decades ago.0 -
Just had quick look at EE and could only see a data only 4G plan for £20 a month for 15GB (£240 a year, not acceptable) or a "data pack" PAYG £10 for 30 days giving 1GB plus 50 mins and texts (paying for mins I do not want).
I would like PAYG for data only.0 -
How come your pay for calls and texts on PAYG if you don't use them?

Apologies for SIM/SIMM error, just very confused over this stuff, I took a PAYG SIM out of my old phone, put in new smart phone, 3G signal showing but no Internet connection!!
Anyway thanks for the 'Three' advice, looks as if that is the way forward although a bit disappointed that they preload the card with 10Gb which is time limited to 30 days. Assume further topups are not time limited.0 -
Pick up a T-Mobile SIM, top it up with £20, then send a txt msg containing 6MONTHWEB to number 441. Six months of Internet, coverage permitting.0

They don't preload anything. Topup the sim with £10 and it will last forever until you use 1Gb in total. Then topup again. Minimum topup is £5. Just don't leave the sim unused for more than 6 months.
This was the page I was looking at

You don't need 'broadband' for a smartphone.
What you need is
three.co.uk - Pay as you go - 3-2-1
Or

Ok looks good, these websites are !!!!!!s to navigate around.
What is the difference between 'broadband' on a smartphone and an "Internet connection" and "3G", I am always trying to make sense of this stuff.0 -
'Broadband' is for PC dongles.
Mobile internet can be 3g and 4g nowadays. You can do fine with 3g.0
