Just bought a "Premium" Scotch Egg from Sainsbury's. Look what I found in it...

Did the egg roll ( ex cuse the pun) out..0

A very strange phenomenon!
The photo that remains in the thread clearly shows that the meat mixture had, indeed, been formed around the egg.
Now, it's possible to imagine that a casing could have split open and the egg been ejected during the various processes (almost certainly mainly automated) that the product undergoes, but it's quite hard to imagine how the empty casing could have reformed into something that wasn't immediately, noticeably, defective, and retained that shape during packing and transportation. (The casing spilt would have had to go almost all the way round to permit the egress of the egg.)
Sadly, unless someone could persuade one of the TV watchdog programmes to do a light hearted look at the occurance, we are never likely to know. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
That's what I thought, Azari. I don't know how they make them but surely it would be more difficult to make a scotch egg without the egg than to make one the normal way. And how could they miss that anyway? And what are you supposed to do in the supermarket if you think you're being sold a dud? Cut it open in front of everyone?0

Probably, now you are aware of the problem, you'll take note of the weight, but that's not something one would normally do, and wouldn't be that easy, anyway, with a pack of four. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
It wasn't the pack of 4, it was a 'Premium' scotch egg, sold individually for £1 each from the deli counter.0

I'm surprised that there isn't a set of scales before the scotch eggs pass before going into the packaging. If it's underweight, then it gets rejected. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Make an ice cube the same size and shape as a boiled egg.
Form the meat round it leaving one tiny hole
Bake/cook until the ice melt and the water runs out through the hole.
It's the Perfect Crime I tell you :-)0 -

I'm more perturbed at how the outer filling managed to set itself into a perfect, hollow egg shape.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
