HSBC 0% purchases bad deal think twice!

Hi friends,
Just had a frustrating phone call with HSBC i thought i'd warn you all.
I wanted a good card for 0% purchases so followed one of Martins top cards.
I was accepted for the HSBC card (good income and credit score) but they set the credit limit so low that it renders the 12 month 0% deal pointless. I cancelled straight away, their call centre and eventual decision making "man" may as well be robots. A definite case of "computer says no". Think twice, i've not faced this kind of unhelpful attitude before and needed to dish the dirt on their not so attractive offer (in my humble opinion)

Bye for now

    What was the limit offered?
How many other cards have you got and what is the combined credit limits?

Would it not have been better to use the card to your advantage whatever the limit was - all you have done now is completely waste one credit search on your file.
  • Yeah, i know what you're saying. I could have used it up small as it was (i don't want to be too specific on a public site) but these dinosaurs really wind me up they are so slow and painful and were basically trying to get me to agree to open a current account for my salary. Other cards fit my needs equally so i've chosen them instead.

Thanks for taking the time to read my rant.

Maybe you should have closed down or reduced some limits of other CCs b4 you appllied, this way they might have given you an extra bit of credit limit. It doesn't always count on good score and income, they may take into consideration the other cards you have had, how long you have them for and try to make a judgemnet whether your a "rate tart" or not. If you had used the card for 6 months then they would have looked at increasing your limit. You shouldn't be angry at their responsible lending policies and who they don't want to give credit to.

  • I don't disagree with you defending their responsibilities. But you cannot defend the attitude, i may as well have been talking to a automated machine.
I prefer to deal with companies that want my business, so without making any other changes to any other accounts i have chosen to go with the Halifax.

    Thanks for reading

but I do agree with your earlier sentiments..you appear to have no reasons for them to be so judgemental, but that's computers for you !
