American Express Application - Platinum Cashback Credit Card

Options
Hello all

I'm a newbie - anyway, I applied for my first Amex Credit Card on Saturday. I completed a very short form and signed an online agreement.
Wanted to another credit card - trying to rebuild my credit. I first went back to MNBA's platinum balance transfer card, during the application they said I wasn't successful for the card I applied for but they could offer me an alternative. Went through with the application and was told to wait 5-7 days. It is also worth mentioning that I have an MNBA Cashback Credit Card (£7k Credit Limit - account opened 6 months ago). When I applied for this card, I thought I'd been declined only to take a call from their applications team when I was at work who were verifying the information I had given them.

When I complete the application - which they said was approved and gave me a reference number, I received the email below:

Congratulations, your application for the Platinum Cashback Credit Card has been approved. You'll soon be enjoying all the amazing benefits of being an American Express Cardmember.

What happens next?

Your Card and PIN will arrive in separate letters within the next 10 working days. Your Welcome Pack will explain all the great benefits that come with your American Express Card as well as show you how to activate your Card and register for Online Services including payment due alerts, paperless statements and more.

Once you activate your Card, you can use it to make purchases anywhere that accepts American Express; including supermarkets, shops, restaurants, petrol stations and even utility companies.

Any questions?
If you have any questions about your new American Express Account please call our New Accounts team on 0800 169 6767 and quote reference number:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

American Express New Accounts representatives are available from Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm and Saturday between 9am and 5pm.

Thank you for applying for an American Express Card.

Have really been approved for the card? I was half-expected to be referred or declined. I only applied for this card as when I did an eligility check there was a high % match to the card.

Just asking really, after a long time of being a credit leaper - slightly stunned with the idea that I will be receiving an Amex Credit card.

All feedback welcomed.

I received the same email when I applied - card arrived without any problems.
  • Thanks - did you they give you any indication of the credit limit during the application process?

    I earn £72,000 (+ £25,000 from my husband).

I applied for my first Amex about 5 months ago. It was my first decent card. I know from speaking to them that an online approval moves to a "full approval" when someone has looked at it 1-2 working days later. That said, I was approved online and then fully approved very quickly.

My limit is about 1.5 months income.

I notice that your email was more detailed than mine. I guess, I'll have to wait and see what happens. Not sure how reliable their online approvals are. I have read in these forums of people being accepted and then receiving decline letters/emails.

As I say, I'm trying to rebuild my credit so getting this card would be good for me in building my next steps. Im going to use it for purchase and off the full balance each month and at the same time benefit from the cash back incentives.

I applied 5 days ago for the Amex Platinum Cashback Credit Card, and received my card today.

They also gave me the same 1.5 times gross monthly income as my credit limit.

I don't have a job as I retired last December and have yet to ask for my pension as I am deferring it. I said I was retired and plucked an annual income of £20,000 out of the air which is £1666 per month and was given a credit limit of £7,900.

I am a home owner with no mortgage, loans, debts or dependents and have lived in my present home for 25 years which might have helped

So you lied on a credit card application, is that not fraud? May be best not to say too much about that.:A

Didn't lie at all. I can draw £20,000 per year from savings if I want to and probably do.

Well, that isn't really income; it's only income if your savings earn you £20k a year. Having said that, it is very difficult to arrive at a sensible figure when you're retired and living on savings & (especially) investments.
