Assessing a property - LPG

I've lived happily with oil for 20 years now, but am considering a move. The house is very attractive in every respect (so far) except it uses LPG.

"The central heating is powered by Calor gas"
"There is a freestanding Worcester combination boiler which is cleverly concealed under the wooden worktop."
"Calor gas tank concealed with a bamboo screen"

Now I've come to like my oil system (especially with the recent price drops) and everything Ive read about LPG (and tie-in contracts) puts me off.

How much negative weight should I attach to this?

Tied by the contract, tank rental to be paid, more expensive per kWh than oil...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Sorry for my silly post #2 :o

I suppose you could use it as a bargaining tool in negotiating the price down for the house.

You could price up a new boiler and a new oil tank.
When I did this, the gas boiler was £1K less!

Then compare prices for usage over the x years that the current boiler will last!

I don't think you have to be 'tied to a contract' - the contract belongs to the current owner IIRC
Some folks own their own tank and deal that way - I presume you have read the 'sticky' at the top of this section???

    Good luck - :)

If there were no silly posts this forum would be very dry....

My post laid me open, you fired your best shot!

Thanks everyone. Decided not to buy for other reasons in the end.
