HMPO Passport damage compensation

Options
So we were turned away at the airport in April due to my 'damaged passport' that we later found out had been accidentally damaged at the passport office when I sent off for my sons first passport last year. So we have lost out on our family holiday due to the passport office. Anyone know how I can get a letter from the airline (easyjet) to confirm we couldn't fly due to the passport damage so we can sue HMPO? Do airlines keep a record of who flew on what flight and why they were refused? I'm worried I won't get a response from easyjet, hence won't be able to claim any compensation!

No compensation is due - it is your own responsibility to keep your passport in good order.

My thinking is this is a wind up post.

Anybody else ever had a passport returned from the passport office damaged??

Why did you send your passport off for applying for your sons passport? It isn't on the list of requirements when we did our daughters recently.
How did they damage it? Why have you only just discovered tehy damaged it, how do you know it hasn't been damaged elsewhere?
Hubby's is in quite a state but still gets allowed through.
The passport office at best may replace the damaged passport, but won't be liable for consequential losses especially if it was damaged last year.
