question re. the ignore button

Not sure if this has been asked before (?) but I wanted to ask MSE if there is a way of improving the ignore function so that you can't see the person's posts when someone else quotes them?

I don't have anyone on my ignore list, I should add! But I think it would improve it no end and probably stop a lot of arguments and squabbling if the current ignore function were to be changed to enable the user to completely block the person/people on their ignore list, rather than just blocking their posts and then being able to read those 'blocked' posts if someone else has quoted them.

I suspect that would be too difficult to implement, because you'd have to be searching for blocked usernames within posts as well as searching for particular usernames.

Also you can quote posts without including the username, which again would make it impossible to block them.

Yeah, I don't really know how it works technically, but I know there are some forums where the ignore function is much better, in that when you've got someone on ignore you can't see what they're written, at all.
