Selling China

Options
I wonder if anybody could offer some advice.. I have a lot of china that I am looking at selling. It is also Johnson Brothers Eternal Beau. I have 118 pieces in total, all in perfect condition.. no chips, scratches or marks.
I've had the items up on eBay, Friday-Ad, pre-loved, Gumtree and just recently the FB selling pages for my area. Nobody seems interested.
Does anyone have any tips? What else could I try? I'm asking for £100, do you think it may be too much?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sadly, the best way I found of selling was to split it up. I mostly ended up keeping the stuff.
Sets don't seem to sell but there are buyers for one or two of this and that to finish or replace in sets of their own.

Even our local auction house now only takes a small amount of china for each sale, they turn lots away every month. No-one wants it, same thing with dining tables and second hand Dyson vacuum cleaners.

I feared that might be the answer :( I did try doing it that way first but really couldn't decide how to split it up. In to actual dinner sets, or just plates, bowls, cups etc..
Did you do collection only, or post? I'd prefer collection because I don't want to be liable for any of it breaking in the post!

Yeah somebody told me to try the local auction house but I figured they wouldn't be interested either. I am so reluctant to just throw it, there's nothing wrong with it at all, I suppose it's just trying to find the right person to buy it.

I gave up, it's in the loft!
It's old family sets and I'm pretty rubbish at selling personal goods when I do it for a living.

When I looked through it seemed that big plates sold separately and single cup, saucer and plate sets worked too. Have a look at completed items on Ebay and see which worked.
As for posting, it's usually best to try and post if you can.

Eternal Beau is one pattern that still sells , although even that has dropped off price wise in the past couple of years.

As has been said, spilt it up, people still use Eternal Beau and will often buy a couple of bowls , or a sauce boat to replace a broken one from their set. No one will be looking to buy a whole set.

Always offer a postal service, the buyers are often rare now and you need to get the stuff to them.

Check out completed listings on eBay , sell the most popular stuff first and work through the rest when you get any free listings.

  • Thanks for everyone's help. Looks like my best bet is to sell it all separately and post it. Shame I threw away all of the bubble wrap from the new stuff that was delivered. :wall:

You will need a lot of packaging. When it is packed you should be happy to drop the box on the floor.

You will be sending china uninsured for breakage the only cover will be for total loss with RM. Many carriers will offer no cover at all.

You can buy a roll on eBay fairly cheaply.

How much is your China worth? No one can answer that, the fact is it's worth what someone will pay for it......

I echo this and should have made it clear when I posted. I'm just so used to half my items not being insured I forget to remind people that sell the same stuff.

I actually use MyHermes for most of it as the box sizes are more generous and I can really pack stuff well.
