Sky dishes and contracts

Hello,

Quick question hopefully, am in the midst of buying a new build, which is plodding along slowly, but in the contract it states that none of the houses on the estate are allowed to have a sky dish installed.

I questioned this and they said it was prett standard. It's not in an area of natural beauty, it's in a completely urban location surrounded by houses.

Is this a clause that is policed very closely or do you think you'd get away with it if you placed it discreetly?

Any suggestions welcome!

    It's a common clause.

Policed? In some estates/blocks it is policed strongly, in others no one gives a xxxxx!

Best advice is to look around. Are there any other dishes evident? Just one? Or multiple?

You would get away with it after the estate is all sold up and the Developer has left.

Hmmmm - perhaps. But perhaps not. Some freeholders/management ompanies DO enforce these clauses and make people remove dishes.

New estates have all sorts of clauses written in. Such as parking of caravans. All to do with the look of the development before it's finished.

Our house, built in c1935, has a clause preventing communication receiving devices being put on the outside of the building. Totally ignored by everyone.

We moved into our new build house 7 years ago and there were many clauses like this.

The builders are still on site to this day, have been an gone a couple times in between. Everyone has satellite dishes but most folk put them at rear side of house (not sure if thats to hide them or if for better signal?)

Dish has to be pointing towards the south generally in a southeastern direction depending on where in the country you are.
Can you get away with it on the back of your house?

We're buying a new build in a rural area and the clause is no dish on the front of the house

We have this clause - but we are not in a freeview/cable area so everyone ignores it as a dish is the only way to get TV!

Just do it but if there is an objection put it on a fence or something.

Satellite installation engineers are used to dealing with this. When they come round, make sure you are very clear it needs to be installed in as discrete a place as possible.
