Hi all,

Just looking for a quick piece of advice; I'm hopefully buying a house soon and whilst I've got the money for a deposit + fees + whites good etc I think it'll be tight.

What I'd like to do is buy things for the house on a credit card, then use the 20ish months at 0% to save and then just pay it off. I theoretically could probably cover it but nothing much is left in reserve. I optionally could just wait and save so I'm just looking at options really.

My question is this: All the credit cards suggest an assumed credit limit of £1200. Is this what I can expect to get? If so it's not all that much! Would the next option be to transfer that money to my account, then pay off the credit card with a balance transfer card?

I'm in no ways in any money troubles and I'm just asking to see what's feasible and to see what my options are.

Completely clean credit history so no problems there.

Thanks

£1200 is just an example. The actual limit depends on the card, your income, other available/used credit and your history.
You are in a better position before moving, but mortgage lenders often don't like (allow?) applying for further credit after the mortgage is approved in principle.

It's simpler and cheaper to use a CC with 0% on purchases.

Alternatively use another CC for purchases and then transfer the balance - instead of paying the cash advance fee.

The obvious benefit of saving or using current funds for them is that should your circumstances suddenly change ie. Redundancy. Illness, Tec then you have less financial commitments to meet.

    Other than that 0% purchase.

Thanks - I thought applying for a CC before a mortgage applicaiton was a no no - but reading the above you're suggesting afterwards is a no no from their perspective?

It's worth asking the mortgage provider if you don't want the provisional mortgage offer pulled after you make an offer for a house and it is accepted.

Suppose I could wait, money's transferred, paperwork gone through system then I can just apply then? Not sporting maybe!
