What is the way to go about it please? I just moved to a place that has prepay meters fitted, how can I request pay by direct debit?

Which energy company are you with?

The flat I've purchased had pre-pay meters.

I am now with edf and once I'm their customer for about 30 days they can change my meters for free.

Speak to U-Switch - they will tell you the best way to go about it

But the EDF route as above is a good start

Your supply comes via the DNO and Grid, probably from the nearest power station. So if you happen to live near Sizewell or Hinkley Point, you'll be getting power from nuclear generation regardless of who your billing supplier is.

I will never use nuclear, I'm with good energy in London. Clean, renewable.

My issue is I don't want prepay, I want to pay by DD, but it's bank holiday everywhere is closed.

When they open I will talk to them about it, but I will never use nuclear in my home out of principle. I hate the nuclear industry ruining our Mother Earth.

Well that view could cost you between £50 and £100 per meter you want changed as not all suppliers will do it FOC because it is classified as a none essential change.

So, as I pointed out, some of the electricity you use will probably be produced at Sizewell B or Dungeness B. You can't stop actually using nuclear derived electricity unless you go off-grid, though you can buy it from a company that purchases renewables.
Bear in mind that if you are renting, you can switch to credit meters , but your LL may require you to switch them back to PPM's at end of lease, and this will be chargeable to you.

  • Todays professional renter prefers credit meters. Their methods are to move into somewhere with credit meters then simply dont pay a penny until the supplier sees sense and moves in with locksmith, prepay meters and a warrant of entry. This can easily ammont to 2 years free energy, over 2k. Suppliers are getting wise to this and should demand a large bond.OP, expect to have a serious credit check/or a large bond before they will move the prepays..If you have a history of past payments with any supplier then switch to them.
