Yes, but with IMAP you have to trust your ISP with all your email. I certainly wouldn't do that.
Using POP also allows me to consolidate all my incoming emails (including 5 ISP accounts, 2 Hotmail accounts, 1 gmail, 1 googlemail and 2 outlook,com) in one inbox and then have them processed by one set of filtering rules.
Lastly, I have over 7.5Gb of historic email messages. Not sure how many IMAP vendors provide that much storage.

That's hardly a typical email scene.....Each to their own, but IMAP provides plenty of space for normal home use and it's much more convenient than POP.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Gmail gives 40GB for a start. But I have to ask, why would anyone possibly need to keep emails dating back to 1994?0

@OP
Have you looked at the Incoming mail setting? On my tablet (Android 4.4.2) the stock email app has an option (when setting up manually) to 'Delete from sever' which I have set to never.
I find POP3 covers all my needs spread over 2 PCs, a tablet and mobile. The PC is the only device that automatically deletes the emails from the server.0 -
On the (encrypted) hard drive on my PC, and in the multiple (and and off site) encrypted backups of that drive.So where are yours stored?
Why not? Why would I delete them?Roland_Sausage wrote: »Gmail gives 40GB for a start. But I have to ask, why would anyone possibly need to keep emails dating back to 1994?Philip0 -
Which is all perfectly sensible, I do much the same. But my point is that such an outcome is easily achievable using IMAP, you don't have to use POP.GabbaGabbaHey wrote: »On the (encrypted) hard drive on my PC, and in the multiple (and and off site) encrypted backups of that drive.Stompa0
