This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning all,
Bit overcast here but might brighten up later, absolutely no OS for me at all today, we are having a girly day out in Brighton, three of my good friends and three daughters are having a day / evening out we are having our nails done, a bit of shopping, lunch out, visiting the pier and slot machines, a glass of wine or two, evening meal and cocktails and then home ! I am really looking forward to it :T
Did a wash last night and got that on the airer in the conservatory, the dw wants emptying but OH will do that and have a quick tidy round.
Elona thinking of you I hope you managed to get a bit of sleep, big hugs to you all xx
Have good days all xx

Good morning all,
RR you sound as though you are going to have fab day, I hope the weather is kind to you.
Elona, I hope you managed to rest if not sleep. I have thought of you many times during the last 24 hours, I can't do anything constructive for you, but please know that you are loved by everyone here, and as Lyn would say, we are holding your hand in spirit.

Morning from a grey and damp London. Hotel is very nice in an old fashioned way. Huge rooms with faded glory abounding.
We're off to the Natural History Museum after breakfast.
RR- hope you have a fab girlie time. We all have to break out sometimes. We are not doing OS this weekend either!
Elona, I hope that you have a little space to regather your strength and peace. My thoughts are with you.
Right, I have to face a very energetic and bright six year old who will, no doubt, ask a million questions a minute. I'm looking forward to seeing Dippy before he's moved away. My energy levels need a big breakfast.
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -

elona I'm so so sorry. Thinking of you and your family xx
Scampi has made friends with Millie ChickHe would trot around the fence and annoy the girls, so they'd wander off. Millie had had enough so marched up to the fence and told him off. He didn't know what to make of this at all
Now, they play through the fence. He barks once and taps the fence a few times with his paw. Sometimes she ignores him, most of the time she comes over and pecks the wood near his feet. She mirrors his movements for a few minutes, then pecks the wood again a few times. He tries to copy her and 'pecks' the wood near her. Then it's all over til later on
I wish I could show you but whenever I get close enough to film it, all the other girls come over to see what I've got (always hopeful for extra corn!) and Scampi thinks I'm holding a new toy for him, lol. I need a camera with extra zoom so I can stay back and catch it all.
I've washed the bedding, will get that out on the line in a mo. I've put a third washing line up – sounds a lot but they're only short – so I can fit a couple of loads (sometimes three, depending on what it is) out in one go. They're under a shelter so I can get things dry even when it's raining. And at this time of year, it's nice to get it all dried at once (rather than checking for dry things then hanging a few more wet things up) so I can sit in the shade on a hot day. Not that it'll make a difference today, it's too cold to sit out there
After I've got the boring stuff out of the way - cleaning the microwave, fridge and the cupboard under the sink - I'll be sitting down and reading. I haven't done that for a while so I'm looking forward to it. Off to see dad later and drop off his birthday present for monday.

Thank you everybody for the kindness and support.
I got some sleep and we sat round last night remembering some highlights like him trying to sneak half a dozen chickens in a cage into the back garden and into a hen run and shed he had constructed - thinking I would not noticeHe was amazed when I said I did not mind him having them and would enjoy the eggs.
We all got a lot of fun out of that.
So glad we were all able to be with him till the end and make sure he was not in pain or distress.
Thank you so much to the person who told us about the site
j ust l a s t s e a son ( I spaced the letters so it does not automatically link.) Instead of worrying about going into a city centre to look for a smart outfit I have ordered three black dresses with sleeves so can try them on at home and save time and money while being here for our family. Strange to think the last time I ordered outfits it was for the wedding blessing three weeks ago.
I can't hear any movement downstairs but will go and offer cooked breakfast to anyone that fancies that. Might go and make a tray of tea and take it upstairs while browsing on here.
All the immediate family are here except an older DD who will come over for lunch so might spice up some pork chops and make low cal home made oven chips for us.
Hugs and thanks to all of you."This site is addictive!"

So sorry for your loss Elona, you sound like an amazing brave lady and your post bought tears to my eyes. Even though most people on here dont know each other it always feels like a nice supportive community. My thoughts are with you.
Some OS going on here today, WM on with load of bedding and towels, these will be put on airer outside until rain comes, then bought in, DW on with 3 days worth in it. BM on making bread for the weekend. DS is being cajoled into cutting the lawn before the rain starts, its not been done for couple of weeks as I had seeded some bald patches, its now almost knee high!! This afternoon will be spent cleaning mould off wall in dining room, noticed couple of small patches behind sideboard, then pile of ironing and long overdue filing of "important" paperwork.
Just realised the time, better get on.Thoughts to all. Mrs D.

Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))) if you need one and especially Elona and family. you are in my thoughts and prayers as you have been for a while now.
Funny sort of morning, fine, but clouds scudding over and the wind is quite stron, it seems to be coming for a different direction. I want to get out into the garden and sort out what was going to be the sq,ft. garden.
Late up this morning, was very tired yesterday. Will be up early tomorrow need to be at Aldi for 10am for them opening. Do not need a lot, but stand more chance of stuff being on the shelves if we are there when they open.
No idea what OH is going to do, if anything. He is still sorting out his paper work etc, the recycle bin was full of shreaded paper yesterday.0 -
Morning All
So glad you could enjoy some memories and got some all important sleep Elona. My thoughts are with you and remember we are all here for you.
tru - Scampi sounds like so much fun (I know he is hard work at times). He is so lucky to have found you.
Gers - Have a lovely weekend in my home town! I like to visit every couple of years and then realise that I couldn't live there again, I like my greenery, hills and mountains too much.
It was glorious weather earlier, I have both sets of bedding on the line along with another mixed load, clouds now coming over and it is so cold. Have loads of housework to do, we are out all day tomorrow - going to collect DS2 and then have friends coming over for dinner.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
You are such a brave strong lady Elona but don't forget about you too. So glad you were able to have your wedding blessed when you did. Such happy memories for you all.
We went to see my daughters last night and their little families. They were coming to see us but I did suggest going to see them. I can tell when hubby gets agitated and I know when its best for us to leave.
We rowed all yesterday over it so I was feeling super sensitive last night when we went to see them. Hubby cant get his head round the fact the girls left Australia for this 'God forsaken' country and as for adopting a Zulu child.... well that's another sticking point too. He's got him on the up and coming terrorist list..... such a pity. He hardly spoke to the girls all night except to question why they left Australia and when he didn't get the answers he wanted to hear he retreated to the kitchen with the men who were downing cans.
Son in law to be asked me if I wanted a drink. I asked for a small vodka and coke and I think he must have half filled my glass with vodka and very little coke... hence when I did get home to cook tea, I burned it pretty badly.:rotfl:
My new Grandson.... Well the pictures I am sent and see on Facebook do not do him justice. Ive seen Indian people, ive seen African people in my day to day life but my Zulu baby is like no one ive seen before. His skin is blacker than anyone ive ever seen and his eyes are so white, they just pop out of his little face. I cant explain it, maybe its his culture but he is 'different' and I say that in the nicest possible way.
The girls have matured since I saw them last. My daughter is a fountain of knowledge (and is hoping to become a Social worker over there) and her partner has grown into a more confident young woman. Their roles in the baby house are different. My daughter is the one who studies, academic if you like whilst her partner is mainly the mouthpiece of the baby house and they are both good at their roles.
They have plans to further the baby house. Their plans are to build the baby house up so that it more or less runs itself, then they plan to open up another one.
I can see this working.
Todays plan is to go and see my Mom. My daughter really wants to see her Nan. This visit will probably be the last time she will see her so it will be special for her. I'm pretty sure Mom wont know who she is but we will see.
I'm not sure what else is going to happen today apart from me babysitting both babies whilst the girls and boys go out on their hen/stag dos on English soil..... I am expecting them to come home in the early hours.... hammered!
I'm hoping to leave hubby at home as by midnight he will moaning to come home.
The girls and Soldier will be with me until the wedding (next Saturday) then they are off to London where they have some fund raising going on. I didn't know but most of their fund raising is donated from overseas funds which is most welcome as the exchange rate is high at the moment.
I will let you know more as I know more,
onwards and forwards,
have a great day all.
Much love to Elona. My advice to you is to take one day at a time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Afternoon all. ELONA I have kept thinking of you since your sad post yesterday. What an inspired idea to send away for black dresses 'cos at times like this you don't want to be trailing round clothes shops trying things on. It's nice you have some funny memories to reminisce about with your girls. Share them on here too if it helps you as I'm sure we'd all like to hear them.
I've had a hotchpotch of jobs this morning, including taking DGD6 for her ballet lesson. We had a flying visit to the pet store whilst she was in there to stock up on birdie supplies, then a quick trip into Poundstretcher to see if I could spot any bargains! Picked her back up and popped into town for one or two bits I needed. I honestly don't know how we ended up in Poundland spending £14 on felt pens and crayons for their activity box here!!
She's back home now and we are having a peaceful afternoon with our feet up awaiting the snooker coming back on! I made a fish pie first thing this morning so that's just to pop in the oven later, and will have with some green beans and salad I think.
Have a nice rest of the day all, take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
