Best graphics card

Can someone please advise me on which graphics card would be best in a laptop out of the following

Intel HD
NVIDIA GeForce 825M DirectX

I have no idea what difference is between them and this makes it very difficult to decide, so I apprecaite any advise

unless you are a gamer, it doesn't matter, nvidia will probably keep your cooling fan going (noisy) more than the intel

are you replacing the old one because vista didn't shutdown

No - although I do have that problem. I have to press the power button to switch it off. But also, it's running very slow. It takes a long time to start loading FF and sometimes I get a msg saying that FF is not responding; other times that some script is not responding (sorry don't know which script) I checked with a local PC repair shop and they told me it's not worth repairing or any upgrads as it would cost more than getting a new one

I think that phrase is something they learn to chant at pc repair shop training school - let me translate - I can't be bothered to do this, and there's not much money in it for me

All your problems sound like software, in which case reinstalling windows is the easy cure.

Reinstall firefox, choose your plugins and antivirus carefully

start in safe mode, it should shutdown cleanly and prove the software diagnosis.

nvidia are more troublesome than intel in my experience

I would try doing that, but unfortunately I do not have the Vista discs as it came pre-loaded with the laptop when I bought it some 5 years ago. And I'm not technical enough to increase the memory to install windows 8.1. So I'm afraid I do not have a lot of options

what is the model of this machine - Lack of discs shouldn't be a problem, they can be obtained elsewhere, created from the machine, or bypassed altogether with the factory restore partition

It most likely has sufficient memory to run windows 8.1 already, but the repair shop mantra applies - a new machine is better value in the long run than buying a new operating system at full price, and 8.1 will be old hat by august, so you may wish to defer your purchase until 10 is released.

backup data elsewhere before attempting reinstallation

That's OK if you know what you're doing

I had considered that and wait until windows 10 is released. But then I was reading that I can upgrade to 10 without any additional cost and laptops might be more expensive byt the time windows 10 is in the shops
