Advice needed on claim

Hi Guys,
I have a policy with Tesco home insurance, I have just moved into a new home and taken up the policy literally 2 weeks ago, I have buildings and contents insurance.
Last night when moving in my TV it fell forward and cracked the screen, its a 42" rear projection TV which i have had since about 2001, its no longer covered by warranty and i no longer have proof of purchase.
I feel extremely guilty calling up the insurance co to claim (i know its what its for) but i've only had the policy for 2 weeks!
Any suggestions, could i make a viable claim?
Thanks

Provided you have AD cover, then yes you would be able to.
It will look suspicious though- old, potentially worn out TV, brand new policy, suspect circumstances surrounding the loss.
I'd say go for it, but probably be prepared to conversation management interviews.0 -
For "AD" read "accidental damage";)0

You won't know unless you try. I would argue that yes the policy is only 2 weeks old but that's because you have just moved into your first home. I'm sure this happens alot, people moving stuff in and something is bound to get damaged.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
It does happen but it will be flagged as a potential fraid indcator im not saying you are commiting fraud!)
As a previous poster staes you would need accidental damage cover to your contents for most insurers. Some cover accidental damage to home entertainment under your standard contents policy (i know Direct line do and tesco are all part of the RBS group so maybe they do too)
it is likely you will need to speak to a specialist department as i think due to the recent inception they will want fuller details as to how it happened etc
Dont be scared to call tho - as you say thats what its there for - if youve done nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about0 -
Should be ok as long as you have section 2 - accidental damage cover on your poicy as already advisedBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

if you took out the policy and inception is midnight and the incident occured at one mniute past midnight you are covered nothing suspicious about it to the honourable insurance company0

The Tesco policies underwritten by RBS come with AD to Audio/Visual as standard. This should therefore be covered. Give them a call, I had to claim for AD to a computer and found their claims service to be good.0

I think this would have been sorted by now seeing as OP asked the question a year ago.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

Lol, any 'honourable' insurance company? You cant see that they might be a tad sceptical about any claim that comes in within 60 seconds of its inception?0
