Should I share my energy switch cashback?

In order to get the best deal you're possibly on a monthly Direct Debit scheme. If so, share it on condition that they set up Standing Orders to pay you monthly so that you're not out of pocket and have to hassle them.
If you're not on a DD scheme tell them you'll share it at the end of the year but they only get their share if they've paid up on time.0 -
I don't know why you are even asking this question. It's not your money. It belongs equally to all flatmates. I am glad I am not one of them, as someone who asks this type of question on a forum, without asking their flatmates, is not to be trusted0

This one has been done to death several times already....
Why not just share the bonus out as a contribution to a night out for you and your housemates. Sure, you have to deal with all the hassle of collecting the money, but I'm sure other housemates have similar chores and tasks that they're equally hassled with.
So show some goodwill and get on with everyone in the house - that's got to be a good deal more valuable than quickly pocketing a sly £30.0 -
OK I am not up to speed on how MSE operates.
Was the original post completely hypothetical or was it based on an actual case MSE has received? I suspect it is the former in which case I think the post should have been more clearly worded, e.g. along the lines of "what would you do in the following hypothetical scenario?"0 -
Shared - just put it back into the joint power bill pot and let the other know it's been done.0

Yes, tell them you have earned £30 cash back for saving THEM money on their bills, tell them how much each individual will pay less then if they ask for a share in your cash back, you will know how grateful they really are.0

You should let them know that you decided to change supplier and recieved a £30 cashback which will mean a reduction in the next payment for everyone. You know it's the right thing to do so do it and if your not happy with chasing them for payment then don't do it or leave.0

If they never do anything around the house, I'd perhaps be more inclined towards the "keep it" side of things
But unless you also do the water, rent, council tax etc bills, I'd assume that they deal with other parts for you, too?
Either way, if you're willing to cause this much potential trouble with your mates over £30, you need to sit down and have a quiet word with yourself."You did not pull yourself up by your bootstraps. You were lucky enough to come of age at a time when housing was cheap, welfare was generous, and inflation was high enough to wipe out any debts you acquired. I’m pleased for you, but please stop being so unbearably smug about it."0 -
They all benefit by your efforts to get a better deal, so don't feel bad about keeping the £30 if nobody else bothered to do the deal. You could keep the £30 in a pot to cover any expenses in future if any other party does not pay their share -I know what it is like to chase colleagues for money ( eg office coffee fund).
It is probably still best to be honest about the money to save any misunderstandings/mistrust.0
