Yet you bought a car from Arnold Clark...hmmm

From what you're saying it seems they have given you the wrong documentation, not that it hasn't been serviced...

I'm sorry, so that makes me a mug then does it? Along with every other Arnold Clark customer?

They're the biggest used car dealer in Europe, and i myself was not aware of any issues with them having family and friends who have bought from them previously. But i guess i'm a mug for believing that they were bound by the same laws as every other car dealer??

The point is i want proof that the car was serviced, until i see the proof i will assume it has not, so far they have failed to prove it over 2 weeks down the line from my request for my service history.

As you now refuse to speak to the salesman you should instead ask to speak to the dealer principal and calmly explain the service history issue (forget about the manual, that's easily rectified), and tell him what it is that you want. I would expect a print out of the service history to be made available to you, at which point you're back to where you thought you were when you bought the car. If they can't provide a service history then that's a different kettle of fish and you should be looking at either a partial refund or being able to hand the car back for a full refund or a like for like replacement.

This is exactly the road i am taking it down, so far no response though. I have e-mailed them through the website and sent letters to the branch manager and customer services department. Not holding my breath for a quick reply but i've been keeping trading standards up to date along the way.

I'm (sort of) with the OP here ... currently he has no proof that the car has been fully serviced per the service schedule, so he paid over-the-odds for it (on the basis that it did have a FSH) and hence it's resale value is (presently) significantly reduced versus what he paid. Accordingly there is a provable loss, which he is entitled to recover from Arnold Shark.

Exactly. I'm taking nothing on good faith, and would not expect anybody who wished to buy the car from me in future to either.

The chance to check a company online and see the reviews is available to everyone, Arnold shark has not got a good reputation so if I was about to spend circa £10 k I would be doing some checking, and as for them being governed by the law:rotfl:, they think they are above it.

No, I've bought my last 2 cars from them without experiencing anything other than pretty minor issues that were quickly resolved. With the number of cars they sell there are bound to be a few with more serious issues, and I think unfortunately you may be one of them, although I still think there's a good chance it'll get sorted out satisfactorily.

I have bought my last 6 cars from new from Arnold Clark, never had any real issues, any small problems I have had were dealt with politely and quickly, also, my mate bought a 2nd hand car from them, something went wrong with it, took it back, it took a discussion of around 10 mins, but result was it was fixed at AC cost, maybe we have been mugged and just not realised it yet?

They obviously don't have the documents, so decide what it is you want.
Then go over the letter/email and tidy it up! ie to the point, bullet point etc
Frankly right now it looks and reads like a car crash, they scan it, miss important bits and it won't have the effect you want it to
