My Dads Halifax and Bank of Scotland accounts closed for the free £5 ?

If they are doing this I suggest the best defence is to make sure each account you hold is used for some real banking (standing orders, purchases with debit card etc.) each month. Then any automated process they might have to identify "abusive" accounts are much less likely to flag your account.

Could be because it's a bank holiday?Tuesday ;;
I set up SO's on all my" a/cs" ( umpteen ) ,then, leave well alone.MY spread would be quite lengthy, and confusing;.
my memory would cost me a fortune:rotfl:
I've accepted that I won't get the interest.
I should set up standing orders to do the transfers - it might get complicated but better than missing out on interest. It's bank holidays and the like that has stopped me so far - I try to do all manual transfers between banks at the beginning of each month. I mistakenly marked the BOS ones as done.

This happened to me with Lloyds Club account because only one dd was activated for that particular month. However I rang their customer service and they said the computer says NO. Not to be out done I rang complaints and asked them nicely could they do anything for me and they paid me the interest for the missing month. Also I mentioned I was not very impressed with the customer service advisor and they gave me on top a goodwill payment of £40.00.
Certainly worth asking them.0 -

I had no activity on either account for the month, I don't want to alert them to that. I think I might start using the second account for a few purchases now and again - just to show it gets used.Not Rachmaninov

If they are closing accounts because of rate tarting, i would much rather them warn customers first so they can take measures rather than just closing accounts.0

They know that we all communicate via these types of site, that's how we know about it, so it's easier for them to make an example of a couple, knowing this would happen, save them doing as you say.They monitor this site et.al
How would they know which of their customers use this site?0 -

I could of course close everything down now but I'd have to go into a branch to do so (for the monthly saver) - but I'm slightly concerned that I may draw attention to myself by doing this. Parnaoid? Yes, quite possibly. But it does seem like LBG are keen to crack down on us rate tarts!
There is no need to do that.
When your monthly saver matures, you can, within the T&C, simply open another one.
Several of us have already done so0 -

I have always advocated this approach, though not necessarily each month.0
