Speeding fine

Hi, not quite sure if this is the thing to do but help!
My wife furnished my details after I was caught by a speed camera driving her car.
I responded to the 'notice of intended prosecution' providing details of my licence etc.
I then received the 'offer of a fixed penalty' but wishing to contest the ticket I referred back to their 'notice of intended prosecution' that I'd luckily copied before it's return to discover that it had been addressed to my christian name and they had used my middle name as my surname (I hadn't noticed). This hardly inspires one with confidence in their handling and presentation of evidence!
Could I get off on this technicality?
With very best wishes Simon

Did your wife provide your details correctly when she responded initially?

I would also be interested to know on what grounds you wish to contest the fixed penalty?

Since they wouldn't know which name is which and the only info they had was info provided by the vehicle keeper(your wife) I can't see it being much of a technicality.

Unless you have proof that your wife provided the correct details and they have made a mistake.

I would suspect you would need a decent solicitor to fight the case such as Nick Freeman.

Haven't heard of anybody successfuly defending a speeding ticket from a camera in years.

The only successful loophole used to be not signed the NIP but providing the information asked for.

The lack of signature made the evidence inadmissable apparently.

i agree, suck it up and try not to get caught/don't speed in future. Have you not been given the oppurtunity to attend a speed awareness course? still costs you £100 ish but no points ;)

but wishing to contest the ticket...

Could I get off on this technicality?

If you wish to contest it, your next step is a court date. Any other option - SAC or FPN - is an admission of guilt.

Unfortunately, what seems obvious incompetance, casting doubt on their ability to read a few numbers correctly to you, will simply be put down as a slight administrative error. Clearly you know it is you and that you were driving at the time & place, so you are not in anyway disadvantaged by the error, and it will be put right for when it goes to court.

The idea of a Perry Mason defence where you wait until the day then stand up in court declaring that "I am not the John william accused of speeding, but John William Smith" and the case is dismissed forthwith is a fantasy I'm afraid.

All the above responses, which contain surprisingly much less sanctimoniousness and dead nuns than is normal on this forum. I don't expect it to stay that way.
