The girlfriend is wanting to get rid of her Sky sub, she's watching a lot less TV these days and has decided that my Freeview+/YouView setup is ideal for her and other than the cost of the receiver is subscription free.
She doesn't have an aerial at home, just a Sky dish.
Can you use this for Freesat, simply disconnect the Sky+ box and connect the two sat feeds to the Freesat box and set it off on a channel search?
Thanks.

Yes.
You can cancel the Sky Sub and use the receiver as a basic Freesat receiver, although you lose the recording facility unless you pay Sky for it. Freesat recorders start around £100, depening on disk size and if you need HD and the on demand facilities or not.0 -

She won't be using the Sky+ box for anything having already decided that she's going to buy a Humax Freesat box on the basis that I have both a Humax Youview box and Freeview+ and she gets on well with them, likes the EPG and finds using them easy and intuitive.
I just needed to confirm that all we needed was to connect the existing Sky sat feeds to the Humax and she'd be in business. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Disconnect the Sky+ box, connect the Freesat box in it's place, job done, sorted.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Sorted - just in case it wasn't clear - not only will she not be able to record on the Sky box, she won't be able to WATCH anything recorded onto it either - get it cleared!0

I don't know where your getting this information or whether there's a misunderstanding.
A satellite dish is the same as any other, the only thing that Sky control is the box. As long as it has two LNB (twin), you'll be able to watch and record whatever you like (within the limits of free channels) using a freesat box.
When I say "freesat", I know this is a brand, but as people use the word to describe freeview satelite TV, I'm using it for that too.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I think they are trying to clarify that if you stop your Sky+ subscription but continue to use the Sky+ box as a FreeSat receiver that not only do you lose the ability to record new programs using the box but you also lose the ability to view programs you had recorded prior to cancelling the subscription.0 -

Ok, well that makes sense, but OP was talking about using a freesat box and I can confirm that all you need to do is take the connections from the Sky box and plug them into the new freesat one.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I moved into a house with a Sky installation. I was able to plug in a Humax Freesat box and it just worked.0 -
I did just the same thing a number of years ago got a humax box one with a pvr plugged it into the satellite leads and have saved myself a fortune not paying sky for all their adverts every 10 minutes..was a struggle to get them to cancel..took about 30 minutes of them offering me everything but the kitchen sink to stay..
Then they kept phoning every week until i told them hell would freeze over before i "came back to sky"
Was told by sky I would miss their "premium content" ..well I havent0
