Thanks guys. Unfortunately (well, actually fortunately) due a change in circumstances Peru is out. Anyone know where is nice in October?0

I guess it depends upon what your definition of nice is? Are you still after somewhere warm? I would (am) going to Iceland in October, which offers a mix of the adventurous (as much as you want) as well as wonderful landscapes and natural features, but don't expect the weather to be great.0

Doesn't have to be warm. Some where with history and lots to see and do is good for us.0

Two tours which I have got planned for next year - no time left for this year - are:
The Baltic States, Belarus and Russia
https://www.explore.co.uk/holidays/russia-belarus-and-the-baltics#map-large
and The Balkans
https://www.explore.co.uk/holidays/search#/holidays/search?regions=5&countries=32
or
http://www.exodus.co.uk/serbia-holidays/discover/balkan-discoverer/avx-89507?flights=1
The weather in the Baltic States etc. may be getting a bit grey in October but it should still be OK in The Balkans.0 -
How about Nova Scotia? http://www.novascotia.com/explore/top-25 Weather will still be quite mild, plenty to see and do, especially if you like outdoors stuff. If you fly with Icelandair (to Halifax), you can combine with a few days in Iceland on the way there or back as well .0
