George Foreman grill catching fire - barely used

Anyone else had an issue with these grills?

My mum had one which didn't last too long & i can't remember why as it was a while ago.
Ours caught fire at the weekend. Not fat but electrical. It started sparking & then came the flames.

Thing is we bought it late 2013 when we got our house but we never moved in until March 2015 so the warranty had obviously expired.

We've been in the house for about 6 weeks now. In that time we've grilled some chicken once & the rest of the time it's just been for some cheese once per week. So barely used.

So i've only experienced 2 of these grills & both of them have been negative. Especially ours (obviously). Thankfully my wife was quick enough to react so it didn't get out of hand.

Due to the time that has passed is there anywhere we can go with this? I would highly doubt it but it's worth an ask.

You can get an independent report done and if that says it's an inherent fault then you can get a partial refund (taking into account usage).

As a George foreman tends to cost between £30-50 you would be lucky to get £20 back so I would say it's not worth it.

You could email the retailer you bought it from and explain you've only had a few months use but I doubt they'll do anything.

I've had a George foreman for 10 years and think they're great. Perfect when you want a quick steak or chicken sandwich. Sounds like you've just been unlucky!
  • As George Foreman grills have a 2 year manufacturers warranty in the UK you should contact the importers and tell them of the problem.
You will probably need some form of proof of purchase but even if you no longer have this it would be worth trying.

According to their website, you won't have to pay to send them the grill and they might simply replace it for you.
•Faulty Items - If an item is found to be faulty, which you did not order, or for any other reason which is our fault within 2 years of purchase you may contact us on 0845 658 9700 or by email contact us. We will then supply the correct pre-paid label or postage to enable its return. If goods are found to be faulty, which you did not order, or our fault will either replace the product or give you a full refund
